Update: Definitely keep this phone. The more and more I use this device. The more and more I love this device. I really feel like Google has nailed the size perfectly between the 2 screens. Most of my stuff I just do on the front display. When I need or want that bigger screen, it's right there.
I don't mind the lack of Samsung features on this phone. That has to do with the pixel fold being designed with a different purpose in mind. Not trying to use it like a Samsung also helps lol.
Original: I have experience with foldables with Samsung. Due to the worst customer service I have ever experienced I will never own another one of their products.
I was really hesitant about getting this device. I almost cancelled my order but decided to stick with it. I do get 14 days to try it out and if I don't like it, I send it back. The hesitancy came from the simplicity of the pixel in general. I always preferred Samsungs take, with all their features. The foldable experience was stellar on the fold 5.
After using this phone for just half a day. I can definitely see why the first fold was such a solid device. I do appreciate that the big screen on the inside is there to compliment the experience. You can do everything from the front screen. When you want that larger screen you just flip it open. Samsung always made the focus the big inner screen.
I can definitely tell the difference with the new chip. I was using the pixel 8 pro. This phone just feels snappier and has a smoother experience. So far the battery life has been solid. It was only in the 70% range out of the box. I am 18% and haven't charged the phone yet. The entire setup from my old phone and playing with all the new stuff is a good sign. I imagine when I get settled into my usage patterns, it will be even better.
I do miss having a separate setup for the outer and inner screens. That is such a nice quality of life feature from Samsung. I did find total launcher, which allows that but the moment it isn't working on the pixel fold.
The speakers on the phone are also pretty solid from the few videos and social media I have consumed. I have played with a few of the "AI" features. They are pretty gimmicky at this point. I am sure the call summary is probably good. That means I have to actually talk to people on the phone in 2024, gross lol.
Next week I get the new pixel watch, thank you 350 pre order store credit. Hopefully it works out pretty well with this phone. I tried the last pixel watch and it was not a great experience IMO.
All in all I feel like I will most likely keep this phone. It's just a solid experience as a whole package. The 8 inch inner screen means I can sell my iPad lol.
