I don't know if this is common knowledge, but since the last system update on Friday, my note has been working with Android File Transfer.

Very happy.

Interesting. I tried over the weekend and mine still didn't work. I will have to try again on a different USB outlet or cord.

Hmmm, I definitely am not able to get mine to work for some reason. I am new to this issue. Can you shed some light on why it may not be working? I am using a VZW Galaxy Note 2 with my brand new 15" Macbook Pro (mid 2012).

Sorry, I'm not sure what to tell you. It definitely didn't work before, but it is now working on both my 2012 iMac and my 2012 Retina Macbook Pro. FWIW, I have to manually start Android File Transfer, and it takes about 20 seconds before AFT recognizes the phone.
