Living in New York a lot of people have different ideas about what upstate means. To many from the 5 boroughs of NYC anything north of the Bronx is upstate.

For many of us from my area, anything North of Westchester county is considered "Upstate". Others have even different ideas that might not actually include my area in "Upstate" even though I'm 3 hours North of NYC.

Upstate is usually anywhere north of where you are by about an hour....lol

Yeah...that's the thing. It depends on where you are. People from Queen's and Brooklyn call Westchester upstate.
