Grey Signal Bars with WIFI On

Well just had nexus 10 yesterday. My own home connects, wifi turns grey but won't turn blue. It connects though to another wifi device and even my phone wifi. Haven't been able to figure out it yet . Contacted google play as I thought it was some software or hardware problem. But no clue. Help plzz..

Cycle wifi off and on again. Then verify if any other devices on your lan can get out to the interWeb.

I know this is an old thread but I had the same problem happen to me. After tinkering for a bit I went to the Wi-Fi settings and tapped the triple dot in the upper right corner. Tap on Advanced -> Wi-Fi frequency band. Change from Auto to 5 GHz and back again to Auto. Fixed the problem for me. :D

I know this is an old thread, but for anyone who is searching for a solution...

Its cause by a Google Sync issue. Firstly go into Settings then Data Usage and make sure Auto Sync Data is on. Then go to Accounts and Sync and make sure your Google out sync is on. Give it a minute and then try to sync. Once its synced the bars will turn blue.

It's not always going to be the AP. I have 4-5 Google and G-hostd apps domain accounts syncing on my N4, and from time to time I see one or more not synced correctly. In 4.4 this is NOT displayed on the notifications bar, but in Quick Settings ... the mobile data and/or Wi-Fi indicators will turn orange if Google sync has had a problem. I've seen these indications when switching networks (Wi-Fi <-> 4G, Edge <- 4G).

The suggestion above is a good one. Verify your auto-sync settings, and also look at account sync status. But be aware, sometimes it's still syncing -- the action overflow ("menu") button will show "Cancel sync" if it's still in progress, "Sync now" if not.

Have you tried a different access point or network? E.g. a local coffee place, or work, or Target.

Going to quote velcrobomb on this:

"Hey guys, Google push notification service runs on TCP ports 5228-5230. This is causing your issue with the grey bars and push notifications."

I have a Smoothwall Polar Express 3 firewall fully closed only allow red/green config. After allowing the range indicated by velcrobomb out bars went blue after disabling/enabling wireless.

Blocked Google Push ports are to blame for the WiFi indicator color.

I don't have this exact phone or carrier, but this problem surfaced for me just today and I'm looking for help and info wherever I can find it. I've had my phone for a year and a half, rooted and running a custom ROM for most of that time without any issues. Then starting this morning I can't access any online data at all through my home WLAN. The device shows that I'm logged into the network and says the signal strength is excellent, but the indicator in the status bar is white or grey same as others have said. Mobile network access is also disabled when this happens.

If I toggle the wifi setting the indicator will be blue for a second or so when I first attempt to enable it, but after that it goes grey again, and toggling airplane mode doesn't make any difference.

I haven't made any changes to my WLAN configuration for several weeks.

I had the WiFi Grey Bar issue instead of Blue for a few days, i thought its because my internal memory was full, but i uninstalled a lot apps still same.
The solution for me was simple one, I just clicked "Clear Cache" under Google Play Services under All Apps.
There are many reasons for the Grey WiFi Bar, it just says, "something is wrong bro"....

i just fixed it all you have to do is to download (google play store latest version apk) and download (google play service latest version apk) and install Them Both and BOOM .....The Blue Bar Is Back it Dide'nt connect first time but i insisted 3 times. Hope This Help Others In The Future

Thanks Rolly, I tried your suggestion by clearing the app data and rebooting and it worked on my BLU 5.0. My WIFI signal bar is now blue again.

Re: Grey Signal Bars with WIFI On..

i am also suffering this problem but only two things not working one is google account and secound facebook app. does anyone huv solution of this problem?

I have had this problem for a couple of weeks. Like several others, I started going through all my apps that sync. I was very surprised to find that some had sync turned off. In my case, it was my email accounts. When I restarted sync for these, the blue came back. Surprise!

I hope it can be that easy for you.

I figured it out..
NOTE: Check YouTube and if there's an error saying couldn't sign in properly or something like that. This method can work.

Requirements: ROOT and a FILE MANAGER (NOT THE FACTORY VERSION)
{I used File Manager HD (Cheetah Mobile)}

1.) Go to the settings of your File Manager and tick (check) "Root Explorer" and "Change System Folders"
2.) Go to Root ( / ) > etc.. then find the hosts
3.) Open it as text and if you have only this "127.0.0.1 localhost"
put it like this:

127.0.0.1 localhost
#127.244.184.71 android.clients.google.com
mtalk.google.com

there's a space between "71" and "android"
if you don't have any hosts file I don't know what to do. Just copy that if you have one.
4.) Instantly after you save that your bars will turn blue. IMMEDIATELY !

Hope this method works for you too! :D :D
If not.. Try YouTube and search for other.. Use other gadgets.
