Grippy Cases

The inside is hard plastic but has a felt like backing that the Phone rests against. I like the rubbery texture on the outside so easy to carry and doesn't slide around
I live the grip of it but don't trust the hard plastic being against the edges of my phone.
The Defender is more protective than the commuter and grippier
That's definitely debatable. Here is how I've come to the conclusion that the Defender may not be better protection.

If it's better to have the soft surface on the outside for protection, then why don't football players have the hard shell of their helmets against their head and the soft padding on the outside? Same goes for all the pads they wear, the hard plastic is on the outside. I realize an object and people are different but I still think it makes way more sense to have the soft material against whatever is to be protected.

All this being said, I also don't like how when I grasp my phone, there is a ticking, creaking sound from the plastic frame of the Defender flexing in and out against the edges of my phone.

I'm not crazy about the looks of those and I thought I read somewhere here on the forums that those don't provide much protection at all but I could be wrong with as much reading as I've done trying to find a protective, grippy case.

As mentioned above I'm going with the OtterBox Defender once my larger holster arrives in a few days.

This (Alcantara) is a seriously good case. Extreme grip and very thin (but strong). Probably not the best protection but I can't stand putting a beautiful phone in a big case. This one is so thin that it feels almost the same as not having it on but grippy. The material feels good and wipes off easily. It's the best case I've ever used if you like minimal.

With the Defender the outer rubber takes the absorption of impacts, the inner frame does not damage the phone. There is also a layer of memory foam like material on the inside of the case that also helps absorb shock and impact. It's far more protective than the Commuter. The commuter is way too slippery, if they made it grippier like the Defender it would be a better case

Based on all the rave reviews around here, I was considering the Alcantara as a grippy minimalist case until I watched a video about it and then saw the price. Basically no protection on the bottom edge AND nearly $50? Nope.

Yeah it's not going to protect from many drops
