Grippy Cases

That's my next thing to research- what tempered glass screen protectors work with the Defender. I do love the feel of the Defender in hand and I see no need to put any grip tape anywhere on it. What sucks is I have to wait for a bigger holster to arrive before I can even use it.

Do you think the hard plastic inside shell of the defender will scratch the black sides of the Note 8?

If you mean back side instead of black sides, there is a super thin layer of super soft foam to protect the back of the phone. I really like the design of it. I hadn't looked at OtterBox for years because of some issues I had with one many years ago. It looks like it would not damage or scratch the back at all.

No, I'm talking about the sides of the phone where the hard plastic comes in contact with the actual sides of the phone. I realize the defender shell has that foam piece on the back area.

The Defender for the Note 8, S8 is a good case. I was thinking about the UAG Monarch but reading some of the reviews people complain about the bottom being flimsy. I wouldn't pay that price tag for that case. I'd rather just buy a Supcase Unicorn Beetle it I wanted something thinner than a Defender.

Oh okay, sorry, my bad. I have no idea if it would damage the sides. It fits in so securely, without any movement, it seems the phone wouldn't move around at all once the frame is snapped into place. Also, plastic is softer than glass so as long as phone and case are perfectly clean (nothing gritty on either) prior to snapping the frame on, it shouldn't cause any damage. Might have to wait for someone that has used one for a while to chime in.

I have the Uag Monarch as well as Defender. Love the Monarch case

Try the samsung oem case made with the suade looking back Alcantara... great grip but pricey
I'm not crazy about the looks of those and I thought I read somewhere here on the forums that those don't provide much protection at all but I could be wrong with as much reading as I've done trying to find a protective, grippy case.

As mentioned above I'm going with the OtterBox Defender once my larger holster arrives in a few days.

Just an update. I received my new larger holster yesterday afternoon, to accommodate he larger Defender case. Put the case on after work yesterday and I'm loving it so far. I just have to get used to how hard the buttons push now. Other than that, is is nice and grippy all around.

Another HUGE benefit for me is the case makes it easier for my large hands, to hold the phone without parts of my hand/fingers wrapping too far around the edges and accidentally touching the stupid curved edges of the screen (my ONLY gripe about the phone and my first curved edge screen device). Overall, I'm happy with the Defender as my grippy case going forward and I'll probably never change to a different case because once I find one I like, I stick with it.

Let's see some pictures of this holster and the Defender case.

It's the Turtleback nylon holster here: https://www.turtlebackcase.com/gala...defender-case-metal-clip-and-fits-bulk-cases/

The only thing I don't like about Turtleback is that their clips make the holster hang down way too low. I just modified all the clips I got by drilling out the bottom two rivets, cutting off the extra clip length and using my Dremel to cut grooves to hold the clip in the lower position and then putting in new rivets. The clip pictured is the unmodified one.

The nice thing about these holsters is that they can be rotated vertical for when you're walking to keep the profile down. I put fabric adhesive on all the places I thought would wear and that's what the shiny edges are on the holster.

With the OtterBox on my phone, it fits perfectly in the holster I linked to above. My first holster from them was for the slimmer profiled Spigen Rugged Armor Extra case I originally got for my phone and the OtterBox would NOT fit in it.

Nice, I like that holster. How does the clip attach to the holster?

Picked up an Insignia gel case for $19.95 Friday at Best Buy right after purchasing my Note 8. I didn't see anything in the US Cell store that I liked. It's grippy and will serve the purpose until my Defender comes in tomorrow. I used this type of case on my S4 for 4-5 years through a few hard surface drops with no device issues whatsoever.

I just ordered an OtterBox Commuter. I like the grippiness of the Defender but can't help but think that the design is backwards. I don't like the fact the hard plastic frame is against the phone. The plastic frame is so flexible, if dropped, it would get smashed into the phone and possibly break something, IMO. I'll keep the Defender on my phone until the Commuter gets here and then return the Defender back to Sam's.

Exactly how I feel. I feel much safer with the Commuter or Symmetry with the soft rubber up against my phone and not that hard plastic.

The inside is hard plastic but has a felt like backing that the Phone rests against. I like the rubbery texture on the outside so easy to carry and doesn't slide around
