Group chat with iPhone users

Alright, this has probably been posted before but I cannot find it, so I'm making this thread.

All of my friends, and when I say all, I mean every last one of them have an Iphone and they all group chat. I was wondering if my Galaxy S4 can be in their group chat with them? They all assume I can't join the group chat because I have the droid. Anybody know if I can or something?

The Galaxy S4 added group messaging functionality so you should be able to. And by group messaging, I mean communicating with multiple people in the same threaded message so that everyone receives everyone else's messages as part of the same conversation. All S3's didn't have this feature so your friends probably made a few assumptions.

I'd just test it out by having them send a group message that includes you and then (a) see if it shows up as a group message and (b) respond and ask your friends if it shows up separately or as part of the group message.

If push comes to shove, and it doesn't end up working, try a text replacement app like GO SMS or Textra. I've uses both and would highly recommend them. They handle group messaging (which they call MMS) and other iOS centric features like Emojis very well. On top of that, Textra is far more aesthetically pleasing than the Samsung text messaging app. Go SMS can be kind of bloated, but tends to be more reliable and is very customizable, with different themes to ,arch the color scheme/etc of your phone.

Yes, group chat support was added with Android 4.2. There should be no issue.

My buddies were amazed I could group chat and send/receive emoji's haha (Nexus 4).

I am a recent android convert and I still can do group messaging with my old iPhone pals. We did a bunch of testing and it only worked with them, at least for us, when they all had group messaging turned on on their Iphones. Works flawlessly actually.

Ha, I think it would be even better if iPhone users embraced Hangouts so iOS and Android users could text and chat and video chat together - and we could all live in harmony.
