Android Central Question

Hello all,

I've just made the switch from iPhone (iOS) to Samsung S8 (Android) and I must say I'm impressed and not looking back.

One thing I have noticed however is that when I send a SMS to a group of friends via the default Messages app my SMS's are sent to everyone individually. On my phone I see the SMS go to them in the group and when they respond I see the messages come back in the group but it's my replies that seem to go individually. On iPhone this wasn't an issue and all group chats were just that, a group chat.

Is there anyway to fix this? I've done some research and enabled a feature under MMS messaging that is called Group Messaging (apparently it sends group messages as an MMS instead of SMS) but that hasn't helped.

When sending SMS messages to multiple recipients, the two options are:
bulk - everyone gets a copy of the message, all replies go only to the sender
chat - everyone gets the same message, all replies go to everyone.

If your SMS app does not let you pick the group text mode, you need to find a better SMS app.
I like "textra".

Thanks for that!! I was in the same boat, went from IPhone to S8 and had the same problem.
The Samsung app doesn't even tell you that the txt has multiple recipients. I was concerned that I could send a txt to an unintended recipient.

Hi.

I have never posted anything to this site before as I'm usually the one looking for help. That being said, I wanted to share this note in case anyone needed it.

In my case, I wanted to send text messages to a group of people but I didn't want the whole group to be in a "chat" where all replies went to everyone. I have a Samsung S8 and I'm using the SMS messaging that came with the phone. I accomplished this pretty easily.

I created a group and added the contacts I wanted associated to the group.
You can start a text by going to contacts, clicking on your group name you created, and then start a text. Or, you can start a text and in the recipients field, you can select the group.

You'll note that when you selected a group or multiple people to send to, on my phone anyway, there was an option right above where you type your message that shows a check next to group conversation. I simply took that check out of there and the messages went to over 25 people as separate text messages and all the responses came from that one person back to me only.

I hope this helps someone. I sure get lots of help from all of you.
