Group text with iphone users

Hi all. My 1st post here.

Crossed over from an iphone 4s to an Lg G4 7 days ago. Love the phone but trying to group text between me and my iphone buddies is proving very difficult. I cant see their original responses in the group, instead only see individual responses. Initiating a group text results in only my buddies seeing only my response and no one else.

I've deregistered my phone number from apples website a couple days ago and even days earlier turned off imessaging on my old device but still get the same results. I downloaded and installed textra made it my default messaging app, turned on the group mms option still same thing. I've even told my friends to delete my contact information on their phones and wait for a group text from me; same result. What more can i do? I dont think telling them to turn off imessaging on their end is fair because all their text messages to other iphones will be sent not using imessage. What more can i do?

Could it be possible that the way my contacts are setup is screwing up my group messaging? Or is this strictly an ios glitch on apples side? How do you all go about setting up group texts and can you name a group text? My group name is always "3" standing for the 3 other recipients that i send the message to. Is there no way to rename this?

I would've thought in this day these things would not happen. 😤
Any help would be really appreciated.
Btw my carrier is mts a provincial provider similar to Rogers up here in Canada.

It is because your carrier didn't mod the stock message app to auto switch to MMS in for group messages. You can check to see if your stock message app has option to use MMS for group messages. If not, you have to download a 3rd party messaging app.

thanks for the reply.
I told them to delete the group thread with me in it, not sure if they did or not. I will tell them again and to delete individual threads between me and them.

I asked when I send a message to them if the receive it as blue imessage or green text message, they said green,
when they reply to a thread with me in it, their iphones send out the message to me as green also. So Looks like the phones are seeing my number as a NON iphone number and that my number no longer resides on the apple servers as an iphone.

not sure what else to try.

Have them delete threads on their phone with you in them....

My carrier was supposed to do this? I looked through the stock message app on the LG and did not see any such option for enabling MMS for group messages. Not sure if anyone can point me in the right direction. I think its not there which is why i downloaded and installed textra but it didn't fix the problem.

it stinks that Apple doesn't play well with others.....but there is like a 21 day period that after that most of the issues go away but there are still very rare tunes where a text with two other iPhones doesn't reach me because it defaults to imessage on their part.
Hang in there

I don't think OP's case has to do with Apple and iMessage. If it was Apple's problem he wouldn't get any SMS at all just like you. The case he got is the classic message app does not handle group message. Although I am surprised that Textra didn't fix the problem. OP, did you switch to use Textra as your default Message app or you are just trying to read the TXT in Textra? You will need to completely switch over use it as the messaging app and don't open the stock one. Or you could try Hangouts which should come with your G4.

I've heard about this 21 day period I'm not sure what that is. A grace period for removal from apple servers? I'm not sure that will help me as my iphone friends already say that my messages are being sent as green text messages. Guess i'll have to wait it out and see.

Yes, I've made textra my default messaging app. Should i uninstall the stock messaging app from lg? I have switched back to it a couple times just to check some settings, like to see if there's an option for setting MMS for group messages but i have NOT sent any text messages with the original default app. Should i uninstall Lg's original messaging app? I do like textra better. I was very surprised that it did not help my situation as a lot of online posts have indicated that textra should've solved my group texting problem.

I would try another messaging app to see if it helps. When I switched from iPhone 3G to Galaxy Note 2 years ago, I had all those problems. At the time, Samsung messaging app did not support group message so I had to use a 3rd party app. Not it does. I don't think you could uninstall LG's stock messaging app unless you are rooted. You maybe able to disable it and see if that helps. Again, try Hangouts, or ChompSMS or other popular messaging apps to see if it helps.

There is also a possibility that your carrier does not support MMS? Or you have the incorrect APN settings for MMS for your carrier? Have you try sending out MMS (attach a picture or something) just to see if it works?

Thanks for the suggestions, i tried different apn setting in textra and tested by sending a picture message to my iphone pals and they did get it successfully, but again as individual messages to each of them. I'll try some other apps like handcent but i'm having issues with contacts in that app. I'll try hangouts and hope the 21day period fixes everything soon.
So frustrating 😡

Update:
Well after over a month of trying different messaging apps and different settings that made no difference, i finally installed GroupMe, a group messaging app and yay! Finally able to text a group of three iphoners in one message thread and have everybody see everyone else's responses.
I dont see why this was so difficult. Maybe i should've done a factory reset early on; i dont know. Its sad I have to use a separate app for group texts exclusively alongside my regular messaging app but hey its just an extra touch on my screen.

Maybe Google should address this problem in Android, I know a few iPhone users that want to jump to Android but won't because of this issue. If I'm Google I'm doing anything to take a chunk out of iPhone sales.
