I am going to be at an event this weekend and have friends and family back home that would like to be kept informed of my progress. I would like to set up a group so that I can send text messages to each of them without constantly having to enter all their names on the to line. I want to send the same message to each of them. Is there a way I can do this on my galaxy Nexus?
I figured that if anyone can answer the question it would be you guys. Thanks in advance for your help.

You can do it on exdialer but you can only have one number in a contact otherwise it sends to each number in an contact.

or just copy all their numbers after you enter it once. Then just paste the list each time into the Recipient section.

I might be wrong (most likely am), but: if you send a single text to multiple contacts (adding multiple recipients to a single SMS) it starts a new thread in the Messaging app listing a single message that went out to each recipient. I think you could reply in that thread and it would send the message out to each contact again.

Edit: This does work. If you send out a 'group' SMS by setting multiple recipients for a single text, you can reply in the thread that creates to send another message out to the same recipients.

From my experience this does work, but when people start replying, you will lose the fluidity and timeline of a true group sms function. The iPhone and Blackberry have this function built into the stock messaging app. My Rezound had it built into the stock app via sense.

VZ Messages is the only app I have found that actually allows group messaging. It keeps everything grouped in on message thread with all contacts

Apparently the new update to Handscent supports group messaging, I have not tried it though

I tried it and it didnt work for me. I made a post on the handcent FB account and they replied saying it only works for iphones and not blackberries but i couldnt seems to get it to work. Even if it has the capability it does not seem as native as it is in VZ messages so i likely will continue to use that.

WOULD REALLY LOVE to see the stock android Messages app receive an update for this.
