I got my S3 last week and my wife picked one up today. Hers had a sticker on the box and phone that said "Updated". At first I thought it was to eliminate the local search because of Apples suit but then I noticed the baseband and kernel had also changed along with the build. Anyone have any idea what else changed with this update?

Attached are screenshots from both phones.

Cool, so now you can do side by side signal reception testing for us. :p

Also, you can see if Verizon/Samsung blocked the current root process with the new update. ;)

I have already checked the dBm levels a couple of times and they are basically the same.

I thought about VZW blocking the root process but I wasn't planning on rooting my wife's S3...so far anyway she wants it left alone.

I just got a replacement device yesterday. This one had the updated sticker on it as well. I used Odin and rooted using the root process and it worked. But I did flash the old system that wasn't yet updated.

So now you have a Frankenstein device (New Kernel/Baseband and Old System Files) and maybe custom recovery?

I heard that the big change on this update was over S voice and how they changed it so it doesnt search the device itself to avoid the apple patent lawsuit BS. Question is if I am unrooted and my phone gets updated to this newer version, am I able to flash the old version that I saw posted somewhere the past week to get to original s voice functionality back.

Thanks

In essence its the same device I had before. Since i did flash the same stock rooted rom that I had flashed on my first S3. This one is just white. Not "pebble" blue

S3nt from GalaxyS3

Yes, but it still has the updated kernel and baseband, correct? That's what I was getting at. ;)

Friend of mine just got their S3 and is on VRLG1. I got mine on the 13th and am still at VRLF2. Any one else who got theirs on or near the in store date still on VRLF2 or have you received the VRLG1 update?

I bought mine about 2 weeks ago and I'm still on VRLF2. Everytime I have the phone check for an update it tells me there is no update available.

I had one I got 2 weeks ago and it was on the old baseband. I was having issues holding onto a data connection and after trying a new sim and it not working I got a brand new one today and it said updated on the box. Data seems more solid but otherwise I can't find a difference.

My old one said it was up to date. You go to settings and phone info and the update is there to check
