GS III vs Rezound

Just want to say "ditto" ... came from Resound and not looking back.

dpham00,
So cancelling the data plan would not be affected by the ETF? It would only be affected if I cancelled the line? Do you know how long I should wait if I were to upgrade the dumb phone line and then switch the GS3 over? Thanks.

No etf if bought from verizon, if bought from third party, depends on terms. Can switch immediately. No issues with changing data plan on basic phone.

are there any recent android phones that came factory bootloader unlocked? As I understood it, even the gnex came factory bootloader locked, though of course, it could be unlocked through Google.

YES! Plenty, just not on Verizon....which is the problem...I'm ok even with factory locked like HTC as long as WE have the choice.

Correct. Cancelling the data plan is fine but cancelling the line will result in an ETF. As for waiting, maybe wait 24 hours just in case.

Sounds good,
Anybody else have any experience with the 2 phones, I've been reading some other posts elsewhere about how the radios are not as good as the Rezound, but some people report that it is the same. Oh well, I guess I'll have to try. I bought the Rezound due to the smaller size compared to the Razr and Nexus and some reports that it has better reception than those two. I'm ready to go large though...

I've used a Rezound before and I find the S3 much better in terms of reception.

Htc gives you the option of unlocking the bootloader, but it isn't quite the same as unlocking the Samsung bootloader, as unlocking the Samsung bootloader allows for flashing of radios. Unlocking the htc bootloader does not, and you need s-off for full access to flash radios.and also so that the bootloader doesn't show relocked, should you decide to relock the phone. Not that it makes a huge difference anyway as htc has info on the phone that you choose to unlock the bootloader.

The rezound does have s-off, but it took quite a while and requires shorting wires or something.

yeah the s3 is a great phone great battery life compared to the rezound. i had two extended batteries and 2 standard. i haven't brought another battery for my s3 because it last over 8 hours and i'm a heavy heavy user. I'm now selling two rezounds!

I am a happy HTC Rezound owner, but have been intrigued by the S3. I used to own a Dinc, and upgraded to the Rezound in April. I like the smaller form factor, but love bigger screens. So the Rezound has been great. The S3 I thought would be too big, but it's VERY thin, especially compared to my Resound. I really like the screen cover, and have considered trading in my Rezound for an S3. Samsung is offering $220 for my Rezound on their website if I buy an S3. For some unjustifiable reason, I'm considering shelling out $600 for a S3 off contract but I need to justify why. Anyone have a good comparison? I am rooted and running an ICS leak on my Rezound, so ICS is not my reason for thinking of going to an S3. I've been a big fan of Sense as well, so I'm curious if I'd be happy with Samsung, but the battery life difference is huge.

Read this thread before you change to gs3. http://forums.androidcentral.com/showthread.php?t=189239

According to this post, it may be a network issue.

After 10-days of working with Level 2 support, three phones, four SIM cards, and multiple interactions with the network folks, they found the issue on the network in the area I work, made an update and I am now sailing free. I haven't had an issue all day. So there is hope and I am pleased that I stayed with the G3. The VZW folks I worked with were very diligent in getting to the root of the problem and fixing it. :D

I know and understand all that, but even before the Rezound got S-off, I still had a choice to unlock it. It may not have been FULL unlock, but enough for me. The GS3 has none right now, and no idea if it ever will. It is VERY irritating to know that every other model GS3 out there is unlocked except VZW. It's not Samsung, it's VZW and that makes me furious. I will be following Mr. Smith on may out the door from VZW when this contract is up.

If you must have an unlocked bootloader, then you will be able to buy a factory unlocked bootloader Gs3. It is the same price as the locked version as well, though it isn't offered on contract. If you are saying it's more pricey, yes it is. Just like how a no contract Gnex on Verizon is $600ish, but you can buy a pentaband gnex for $350 fully unlocked.

Verizon has always been a premium carrier and has more restrictions than other carriers. If price and/or an unlocked bootloader are your primary concern, then I would advise you to switch to GSM as you typically will have lots more options and freedom.

For me though, Verizon provides the best network based on my experience and the experience of my family and friends, so, I am stuck with them, as network coverage is the most important thing to me.
