GS3 has THE worst auto-correction on the keyboard.

I ran into this same issue, and since I had heard so much about swift key, I downloaded the demo. I can definitely say it is much better. Instantly, I was able to type like normal again, and got over the clutter of that stock keyboard. I'm glad they had the demo, because I would have been hesitant to spend 4 bucks, but now, I'm almost sure I'm going to buy it when my trial is up. I'm new to android, do things like swiftkey 3 go on sale once in a while? Wouldn't mind saving a buck or two there. :)
If history is any indicator it will be free on Amazon about a week after I buy it... Although with SwiftKey popularity i doubt that will happen anytime soon. Just downloaded the trial seems pretty slick. It will definitely be an adjustment from swype, but I'm going to give it an honest try.

Re: GS3 as THE worst auto-correction on the keyboard.

Not as easy but when you're in the text field you can pull down the notification bar and change it

Thank you very much for the tip!

I noticed that little keyboard icon in the notification bar when I'm typing something but never investigated it. Gets me where I need to be. Thanks!

Swiftkey X was the free Amazon app of the day a while back. Then it was on sale in the Google Play store for $0.10 during their "Ten Million Downloads" sale. When they released Swiftkey 3, they made it a free upgrade to everyone who already bought Swiftkey X.

So yes, it does go on sale periodically.

Re: GS3 as THE worst auto-correction on the keyboard.

One thing bugs me about typing on this phone. I can't long-press a text field and get the "Select Input" option. On my last phone, this feature allowed me to change keyboards on the fly (like when Swype flakes out in Streamzoo, I could just long-press a text field, tap "Select Input" option and pick another keyboard). With the SGS III on any keyboard, long-pressing a text field only gives me the option to paste.

Is this a setting somewhere that I'm missing, or has this functionality changed?

On a slightly (un)related note... what happened to being able to long press to paste also? I'm not a dumb person, but this phone sure is making me feel that way with all the annoyances I keep being unable to work past - especially being unable to find a bloody keyboard that works for me. Almost wished I had just stayed on my CM7 DX2 at this point, and it's only been 12hrs ugh. :(

Re: GS3 as THE worst auto-correction on the keyboard.

Swiftky all the way, the default keyboard and predictive capabilities are severly lacking.

Re: GS3 as THE worst auto-correction on the keyboard.

I just signed up and downloaded the new Swype beta and it kicks butt on Samsung's attempt to imitate it. Also, the Swype keyboard is way better, with all the important punctuations right where you need them verses Samsung's klugy setup.

I really missed the real Swype from the Evo and now I'm tickeled pink! :D

The best thing about Swype is I can input text three+ Times faster than inputting letter by letter

Did the same thing earlier today. Your absolutely right. With the ability to sync words from Twitter and text message every Swyped word is basically correct. Too correct. Living it. Although the keyboard is awfully ugly. Is there a way to download themes?

Re: GS3 as THE worst auto-correction on the keyboard.

Can you swype with Swiftkey? because I cant type anymore on a phone without swyping.

Re: GS3 as THE worst auto-correction on the keyboard.

Keep in mind that the latest Swype beta adds in the predictive typing feature to sort of make it an all-in-one keyboard that combines the best of Swype and SwiftKey.

I have found it to be every bit as good as Swiftkey in that aspect making Swype the only keyboard a person needs.

Now if Swype would add in some theme options, it would be pretty much perfect.

Re: GS3 as THE worst auto-correction on the keyboard.

I couldnt find the swype beta in the play store.

Well I have played with the settings for predictive text and have everything turned off except Spell correction and it still is pretty bad.

I am also thinking a better keyboard might help me a little, but my feelings are that I should not have to spend money to buy a replacement keyboard when the stock one should be fine. I'm not trying to sound cheap. I'm not a fan of Swype either.

The Android keyboard that comes on other Samsung handsets was a little better. I just upgraded my other phone to the official ICS which is the Skyrocket, and it still has the Android keyboard and has much better auto correct than the GS3 has. Actually the Skyrocket's auto correct settings are identical to the Razr Maxx, so I am think that must be the standard ICS settings and Samsung just botched it up for the GS3.

So anyone have a suggestion for the free basic keyboard? I don't like any of the GO products. They are bloated POS apps. Has anyone ported the stock android ICS or JB keyboards to use which is easy to type on?

Personally I think Motorola and HTC have the best keyboards. They are nice and BIG.

I'm laughing because I said the same thing before I started using Swiftkey. Once I got used to Swiftkey telling me what I wanted to type before I typed it I forgot all about Swype... ;)

I've just become smitten by A.I.type Keyboard, largely due to the dedicated number row. Text prediction is not anywhere near as good as SwiftKey, but is not useless.

But, yeah, the Samsung keyboard was a special kind of dumb, guessing words in the actual text field as I'm typing.

the stock keyboard is improved after udpate to LFB... definitely worth a try. switched back from swiftkey to stock swype on the gs3

I am terrible at typing on these virtual keyboards (big fingers, and no room to actually use the qwerty keyboard). An I know how to type. I was lousy on my Iphone and worse on the GIII (for the short time I tried the stock keyboard). Been running Swiftkey 3 trial. An it is very, very scary how good it does. My only complaint. I wish it had a hot key on off toggle for when entering passwords.

The only reason I have not purchased it (sorry Swiftkey) is of the rumors of about how good Jelly beans keyboard is.

Not a lot of companies give such an open ended trial and this one is a must to try.

I agree, the stock keyboard sucks. I switched to the Jellybean keyboard form the Play Store, and like it a whole lot better. Even in beta, it's better than the stock one.
