GS7 WiFi Default Connection Question

When I selected the WiFi connection, my device would select the connection which I assumed is the default. I have Comcast as my ISP. The modem is dual band. I have logged into both bands. There appears to be an open public xifinity wifi. My GS7 would always be on one of the secure bands when I turned wifi on. Now, I have to select it. Is my GS7 the issue?

Connection is stable. When I tried it again, the original secure network connected with no intervention on my part. But subsequent tries didn't produce a consistent result in terms of which network connection was chosen when WiFi was enabled.
