Good afternoon all. I'm thinking about trading in my GS8 on a Pixel 3 with ATT (in order to use the trade in feature) then moving it to Project Fi (which I don't currently have). Any roadblocks I'm not seeing? Any advice would be great, thank you.

READ EVERYTHING. Make sure you know your obligations for the trade in as far as maintaining service with the carrier after the trade in is done. You may be bound by a pay-off agreement on the new device, which must then be satisfied before taking your phone/line elsewhere.

I hear that. I don't know why they make it so difficult to deal with carriers.

Because they want money, lots of it, and a steady stream of it. They're ticked that T-Mobile forced their hand in getting rid of contracts, so this is their way of having contracts without calling them that.

It's the same with Verizon, whenever they offer a discount on a device now, you don't get the discount all at once, but in the form of bill credits, divided equally across 24 months. If you leave or upgrade early, for example after 12 months, you lose half of your discount.

Ah hah... Can you tell I've had ATT forever? This is the first time I've seriously considered leaving. I really like what I've read about Project Fi and the Pixels.

My biggest concerns are of course dealing with leaving a "contract" (paying off the GS8) and then leaving our family plan. I think the Fi plan won't cost me more than 60 per month, but I'm unsure what my wife's iPhone bill will be with ATT once I move my phone to Fi.

I wish I had the option to go with Fi, only have the choice between Verizon or AT&T (essentially the same). As for your wife's plan, if AT&T's plans are still like Verizon's, you'd subtract the device monthly access fee (usually $20 per device) and a portion of the taxes. Also, if the 2 of you were on a shared data plan, you could probably drop to a lower tier since you'll have one less user.

Because carriers starts with a c, alot like crooks..... and just like crooks, carriers are hard to deal with because they're out to screw you out of your money. A lot like a car dealership.........or Apple LOL.
