[GUIDE] How to Disable Apps

Hi,
I have a nexus 5 and I tried to disable any google app such as hangout and it worked well going through system>apps>all choose one and press disable.
However 2 are resisting and those are the ones I'd like the most to get rid off: 'Google Search' and 'Google Now Launcher' (I'll use Nova instead)
Those 2 have the 'disable' keyword keyword grayed.
Anyone knows how to disable those?
I actually managed once to disable 'Google Now Launcher', 'disable' was not grayed and then when pressing home nothing was happening(I did not have Nova installed). Worried of the situation, I put it back and now I can't remove it again. Just to say that there must be a way, maybe a bug in Android at that moment...
Anyway, if anybody knows, please share.
Cheers,

Google search is integrated heavily in the ROM. I would just install Nova and let Google launcher just sit. I personally like having a launcher active just in case something happens to the one you are using.

Like the update before last to Nova that kept force closing on my Galaxy Tab 3. Hated using TouchWiz until that was fixed.

It would be great if facebook's messenger could be disabled, this way we can still use the messaging service inside facebook. I use a galaxy S3. Does anyone know how to accomplish this without rooting the phone?

I am still able to use the messenger app built into the app. If you delete the dedicated messenger app, it should still be working in the "regular" Facebook app.

On Samsung Galaxy devices, the option to disable some OEM-installed apps are grayed out.
Any way to come around this without rooting the device?

Welcome to Android Central! Unfortunately, there isn't. I'm not sure why certain apps can't be disabled, but if it's greyed out, you simply can't.

If the OEM makes that app a system app, then it can't be disabled. In which case rooting is your only option.

Some apps can be marked by the manufacturer or the carrier as "Essential" and the "disable" button is disabled. Call your carrier and complain about these apps. Even though there is nothing they can do about it, If the carriers get enough complaints they will stop bloating up our phones.
