[Guide] How to remove Bloatware from the Thunderbolt

(New to Droid, new to rooting)

Now that you have a rooted Thunderbolt - what changes / improvements can one except to see?

What happens when Gingerbread is released for Thunderbolt? Do you "un-root", upgrade to Gingerbread, then root again?

Are you going to provide a tutorial for that too?

Why does it have to be an explorer? I've used System App Remover and Titanium Backup to get rid of Thunderbloat since I rooted. I've always liked using Titanium Backup because it lets you detach apps you've downloaded from the market so when you flash a new ROM the market doesn't try to download it again.

Great write-up Cory as usual! Thanks!

Just a thought, before you go and use a Free file explorer, maybe we should do a pros and cons of all the free ones out there to see which one is the best of the crowd and only do one more write-up with that one?

Android Beginner here, I purchased "Root Explorer", downloaded and it installed, I somehow missed the Superuser request screen? The only difference I notice is I am connected to wireless rather than 4G? My "Screen 3" looks like the "guide-how-remove-bloatware-thunderbolt" (http://forum.androidcentral.com/thu...6-guide-how-remove-bloatware-thunderbolt.html) screen except I don't have the [Mount R/W] icon.

Any help is greatly appreciated thanks.

What are your views on Bloat Freezer? It is really easy to use. I'm not sure what it does but it seems effective.

What I did for my Droid 1 was change the extension (.apk) to something the system couldn't recognize like .aaa then rebooted. The system would skip over the bloat.aaa and load the other stuffs.apk.

Does this apply to the EVO and can I use Astro to move the app? I Just have to know what apps to get rid of.

Does the current root method require a flashing of the rom or can I keep my current state intact? In other words, do I lose any apps or app data when I root?

Is there a way to do this from my PC when the phone is connected using a File Explorer on my Windows7 laptop instead of doing it from the phone? I think I could rename files and move them around a lot quicker on my laptop then on the phone.

Current method require you to flash a downgrade the flash to the current, so you lose all data. Back up programs can help with this.

Thanks Guntherm! I should have said I was already rooted. I'm just looking for a file explorer that could move files back and forth from my SD card to/from the system using a GUI? I know all the linux guys are command line guru's and I can deal with that, but a GUI file explorer on my laptop would be nice to see all the system files and SD files.

If you mount the phone as disk drive when plugging it into your computer you have access to the sd drive via normal Windows explorer

But that's most likely not what your looking for.

there is QtADB which is a graphical ADB.
