[GUIDE] Rooting 3.7/Hboot2.02+ w/screen shots (1/27/2011)

Can I still use this to root? I still have stock 2.2, v3.70, HBoot-2.10.0001. I haven't done the OTA update to GB 2.3.3 because I really want to avoid it after reading several forums and page after page of problems with it. I'm a little hesitant to root because there are so many threads out there telling you different ways to do it. I read this forum regularly and everyone seems very patient and willing to help out so I think I want to use this guide. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

If you haven't updated, my best advice is: follow this guide verbatim.

awesome guide! followed it to the letter. One question though - once rooted, flashed, and having backed up your ROM, is it OK to delete the zip files? SD card memory is getting low

After rooting I get a force close error every time I receive a text message and the received message doesn't show in the thread.
I tried downloading handcent and I'm still the same problem. :/

Works perfectly with my Evo 4G

Thank you for posting the Guide, [GUIDE] Rooting 3.7/Hboot2.02+ w/screen shots (1/27/2011).

It worked without a glitch. However, it was my first time and my heart stopped when I first saw the "Fail-PU" in the RADIO_V2 in the first update.

Also, I though I will see the white HTC screen after the red traingle screen. But I had to pull out the battery then power on the phone to continue the process.

Again, thank you for the posting. I have crossed the Dark side....

I'm stuck on the following step:

13. When the phone reboots use the volume keys and power button to select Bootloader from the menu, hit the power button to select this choice. The phone will scan the PC36IMG.zip file we pushed on the sdcard earlier (this is the engineering software release for the EVO), after the scan is complete, the phone will ask if you want to apply the update, press volume up for yes. (Some selections will be skipped, this is normal and will take a few minutes to run) When the update is done the phone will ask if you want to reboot, use the volume down key and select No.

I go into Bootloader, it scans, but doesn't ask to update. Grrrr! What should I do? I reboot tried it and still no update. I even took out the battery and still nothing. Help!:(

Are you on gingerbread?

k so im looking into rooting my phone. and im looking at here and G&E to see how to do it. But on G&E it has some slightly different steps aka in their tutorial it just has me download unrevoked3 and the HBOOT drivers, plug in my phone make sure debugging is on and HTC Sync is off, run unrevoked, let it do its business and then five minutes later your phones rooted. What exactly does it all do? Does it basically do the same thing? it seems easier so and since im a noob im considering it. What would you guys say about it? Either way it gets rooted, right?
Thanks a ton for your help,
MengTian

Hey newbie trying to root the Evo 4g. Everything is going smooth except for the command lines part. It will only let me past 3 of the commands and nothing else. Anybody ever experience this?

this is NOT the unrevoked way correct? cause this my first time unrooting my phone and i need to know if i should do it the unrevoked way or not since this is the way i rooted my phone

and will this automatically take me back to stock?

because im getting rid of my evo and giving it to my parents and have to unroot because they need to transfer her number to the evo now since its hers and they can't connect to sprint because im rooted.

So once i unroot will it go back to stock and will they be able to connect to sprint. thanks guy

No this is the rooting guide. Not the unrooting.

For the unrooting guide for using the Unrevoked method is here.

Just make sure you have the RUU for the same hboot you are using.
