Overwrite hboot

Alright it probably just couldn't over write your hboot which is normal with version 2.02+

This might be a stupid question, but will i have any issues if it did not overwrite my hboot and is there anything i can do to fix it. Thanks for your help!

Power off your phone, then press volume down and the power button at the same time until it loads, you'll be at a screen that says what hboot version you have.

If you're on 2.02 or 2.10 then you have to stay that way and that's totally OK - they have built in protection so they can't be over-written without some hackery, but it's not a big deal at all.

14. Move the selector to “Recovery” using the volume keys and press the power button to select it. Your phone will reboot to a screen with a red triangle on it, this is normal. (If you get stuck here at the white HTC screen, this is OK, just pull the battery then power on the phone by holding the volume down and power buttons at the same time. When the bootloader loads it will re-scan the PC36IMG.zip, select No to apply the update, then No to reboot device, from the menu select Recovery)"

Help...

I made it fine to step 14, but when my phone rebooted, I got stuck on the White HTC screen...no red triangle. I pulled the battery, and pushed the power button while holding the down button and my phone didn't boot(while plugged in and Just Charge selected). I put the battery back in and held the power and down button and my phone started up but no red triangle screen...no option to select "No to apply the update" or any options after that. My phone is just set back to factory settings.

Can I continue this process or do I need to start all over from the beginning? Either way, what can I do? Thanks in advance..

Any help out there???

You can continue, un plug your phone and then press volume down and the power button at the same time.

Ok..that didn't work at first, but once I powered down and powered up by pressing Volume down and power, I am back on the bootloader screen that asks if I want to start update.

One quick question...I closed my Command Prompt...do I need to pull that back up again? If so, what do I need to enter to get back to where I was?

Thanks and forgive my ignorance :)

Yes, open it back up to the adb folder and keep going from step 14

No problem, we all had to start somewhere.

Ok, I have the Red Triangle screen on my phone, it is plugged in, and command prompt is open but I can't seem to open the "cd c:evoroot"

My current command prompt says C:\Documents and Settings>

Ok..now I am stuck on #17.

17. Select enable USB-MS toggle using the volume keys and power button, this will open your sdcard up on your computer. Rename the file “PC36IMG.zip” to “PC36IMG-ENG.zip” then rename “PC36IMG-MR.zip” to “PC36IMG.zip” (you don’t need to enter the .zip part in windows because it’s hidden as a file extension). Disable USB-MS on your phone.

My Phone says

Build : not set

Enabling USB-MS : .

USB-MS enabled!
Press Power to disable
and return to menu

for some reason, my sd card on my computer didn't open up so that I can rename the file

Is your usb cable secure? I find it best to let the EVO lay flat during stuff like this, I'd say the HTC cable is wonky at best.

Sometimes it takes a few seconds to pop up on my pc as well so I go right to windows explorer/ my computer and just right click and hit refresh a few times.

I think it is secure, but I am stuck again. It isn't opening and I am stuck on the triangle screen with the above message. Should press "Power" to disable and try again?

Try a different USB port on your pc maybe? Try restarting your PC, you can press disable and try again as well.

Looks like I am successfully rooted now. Thanks for the help.. I was able to just go in to Windows Explorer to rename the zips...thanks again for your time and patience! Awesome work!

I searched online and have found some forums about my problem. Except they just keep telling me to come to this thread or this same thread from xda.

My problem is when I go to update the first PC36IMG.zip. I have temp root with z4. Backed up my rsa keys. Went into Boot Loader. PC36IMG.zip was scanned/checked. Update - Yes (volume up). When I get to Radio_V2 (2nd item from the top) it vibrates [sorry I dont remember the exact amount of times) and then says Radio_V2 Fail-PU...everything else is OK!...then it says UPDATE FAILED. At which point my Evo stops working. If I reboot I get the red triangle. I have to do an RUU/stock PC36IMG.zip to get my phone back to working condition.

From what I have read online, it might be a hardware issue?

Anyone have any suggestions on how I can root my phone?

My Hboot says

HBOOT-0.76.2000 (PC3610000)

Is this worth worrying about or should I just leave it alone since my phone seems to be working?

Interesting, were you able to verify the md5 checksum of the file? Just want to make sure you're using a good file.
