Was thinking on buying the H815. Wanted to know a few things before I do since I have till Monday to research it..

1. I hear there is the US and a International version? What's the difference? Which is 'better'?
2. I take it that the H815T and so forth are versions for other countries?
3a.. From what I've learned each carrier has their own version of the G4, but it seems that a lot of sellers selling the H815 have bought them from AT&T, Verizon, etc. How does this work when the VS986 is the Verizon version, etc.
3b. It seems that these H815 versions have bloat even though they are carrier unlocked?
4. Do all H815 phones have the boot loader unlocked or just the International version or?
5. I also heard someone say that I will lose out on DRM with the International version? what exactly will I miss out on?
6. I heard that the International version gives better performance, faster updates, etc. Is this correct, what other benefits are there? Do I lose anything from the International version?
7. Regular G4 question: I hear a lot of the phones do CDMA, some only do GSM, with the options to change the Network mode and APN settings, it seems that the G4 would work with any US carrier, am I wrong? With those settings that can be changed it seems so. I know some versions do certain bands and such but as long as your G4 does the bands your carrier does, all should be good, yes?
8. Additional question: How does one check to see if the boot loader is unlocked?

Thanks!

99% of G4 owners in the US will have a carrier version of the phone. That's just the way it is. There are few H815 owners here so you will probably have to wait for them to respond. You also posted in the middle of the night so most people were either still out on a Saturday or sleeping.

I have an 815 G4. I will try to answer your questions as best I can:

1. I hear there is the US and a International version? What's the difference? Which is 'better'?
As far as I am aware of there is mainly a band difference as, say Europe versus the U.S., uses different bands for cell use. Is one better than the other? Probably not.

I take it that the H815T and so forth are versions for other countries?
Yes. Most likely due to proper banding of regions.

From what I've learned each carrier has their own version of the G4, but it seems that a lot of sellers selling the H815 have bought them from AT&T, Verizon, etc. How does this work when the VS986 is the Verizon version, etc.
It might even be as simple as a preorder variant as opposed to buying it outright from a carrier store. (this is pure conjecture)

It seems that these H815 versions have bloat even though they are carrier unlocked?
It comes down to this is a device made by LG, who still throws a lot of extra apps in their devices. If you were to buy a carrier unlocked Samsung S6, it will still have the Smart features, S Health, etc. Carrier unlocked does not equal bloat free. You are bypassing the carrier extras, but that is about it.

Do all H815 phones have the boot loader unlocked or just the International version or?
I think that is just the TMo variant as of right now. I may be wrong.

I also heard someone say that I will lose out on DRM with the International version?
I haven't seen anything in print yet. I cannot confirm or deny. My initial reaction is to call that unfounded.

I heard that the International version gives better performance, faster updates, etc. Is this correct, what other benefits are there? Do I lose anything from the International version?
Better performance in terms of less carrier extras that don't needlessly use RAM, probably. I don't see any other reason for any increased performance issues.

7b. Losing anything from the international version might depend on what carrier you currently have.

Additional question: How does one check to see if the boot loader is unlocked?
As far as I know, they are all locked. The question is which ones can be unlocked. The last I knew, only certain International ones and TMo could be unlocked.

Counter question: What is it about the International one that has you so interested?

Well, I'm down to the T-Mobile H811 or H815. I wanted no carrier bloat, I know I'll get some from LG that I'll have to root and remove, that's fine. I also need one that works with Cricket which they both do, so that's good. But I wanted it carrier unlocked so I can take it straight to Cricket. The H815 is carrier unlocked so I can take it straight to Cricket, with the H811 I'd have to have T-Mobile service for 45 days until they will carrier unlock it before I can go to Cricket. So the reason I'm so hung on the H815 is because it's carrier unlocked, able to be boot loader unlocked and has no carrier bloat, I hope. I don't wanna wait 45 days and pay for their service for that time.

My other concern is warranty. I'm not sure if the H815 International version comes with one or if it does if LG will honor it since I'll be using it in the US. Now with the H811 from T-Mobile I will get the warranty and Insurance.

I know I can't go wrong with either version but since there are so many different version of the phone, it gets some confusing. Is there a site that shows the different specs of the different models of the G4 and the different models of the H815?

I have some messages sent to some of the eBay and Amazon H815 sellers on the question of warranty. So it's between these 2 for many reasons but I also heard that the FM Radio actually works on the T-Mobile and H815 models also, so there's that also.

Does your FM Radio work? You have the Themes, and the other crap Verizon removes? Did yours have carrier bloatware?

Every question you asked has already been answered many times and can be found by doing a simple search. You yourself said that you can't go wrong with either one so why are you keeping this thread going and going and going?

Since Golfdriver97 pretty much answer most of your questions,I will just add.

I have the H815 (on the AT&T Go Phone Plan) and yes the FM Radio works.
I don't have any carrier bloat.
About the warranty I cant 100% say if there is . I dont think I got one on mine

Where'd you buy yours from?

Do any of the H815 International versions come with a warranty? I can't find one with a warranty.

The 815 EUR is warrantied in the UK only. I think the 815T is warrantied in Asia.

LG USA will only warranty devices sold in the US. My 815 was bought in the UK before being shipped to the US, so no warranty.

Thus is my understanding as told to me by LG USA

I was going to buy one from Texas, so in the US. But he says it comes with no warranty. So thinking about H711 again, but I don't wanna deal with uninstalling bloat, haha.

Just so you're completely clear.

The GSM side of the phone will work regardless of country. The challenge you WILL have is the complete ability to use 4G with different variants, as each region, so North America, Asia and Europe adopted different frequency standard based on what was available upon the adoption of 4G in those various regions.

If you're struggling to sleep, this should help lol "wiki 4g" (do a search, not allowed to post links yet :p )

I'm told that the carrier I want, Cricket, supports the bands and frequencies that the H815 does. I heard I can't use WIFI calling or something, I don't know why someone would use that. But I think I found a seller with warranty and all. It should get 4G since it's compatible with Cricket's service, which uses AT&T now.

It's not just frequencies, it's also the 4G mode that they offer and the phone is compatible with.

It was a lot worse in the early days of 3G as the technologies were SUPER different. Just compare the spec sheet of the one you want with the specs of Cricket's service and you should be fine.

Using an H815 from the UK here in the USA on Cricket. No issues LTE is fine. Great device and combo
