is this going to be a continuing problem? Has anyone else had the phone shut off? I was just in the middle of the text and then boom, it was off. Had the phone since day 1

I am on a replacement (new) and today was the first reboot, around 8:00 est or so and it had to re authenticate my acct?
I am rooted with a custom rom though.

I've had about 5 or 6 reboots since getting my nexus (day 1). They have happened randomly...

Twice trying to open my camera, once opening settings, once on angry birds, once while i wasnt even touching it, but I was in an area where im sure it was searching for network signal. I'm sure there were a couple other times.

Its very annoying, but since I've heard of multiple people having this problem with the GNex I'm convinced its a software issue with android 4.0.2 so I have not bothered to return it for a replacement. Hopefully, no it will not be a permanent problem.

There is a huge thread on the google boards about this. Looks like a software issue hopefully that will be fixed in 4.0.3

it doesn't happen often, no worries. most people seem to forget that the vast majority of apps on the market are not optimized for ICS and cause probs. i just uninstalled flash player 11.1 (which is supposed to be "optimized" for ICS) because it was causing freezing and lag.

another thing to consider, it's a new phone on a new operating system. there's going to be bugs until the update fixes them.

some people are blowing things way out of proportion with this phone....

FTR My above post was in no way bashing the nexus. I shrug through these restarts because the phone is operational again about 60 seconds after it freezes. It's just a slight annoyance. I bought it on release day and knew what I was getting myself in to as far as possible bugs.

Bottom line, Early adopters are idiots if they expected a flawless phone with a practically beta OS.

Out of curiosity though, how did you come to the conclusion that it was flash player causing your freezing?

i know you weren't bashing the GN :)

like you, i bought this phone fully expecting bugs.

there was a significant and immediate difference in phone performance each time i installed flash 11.1 (i've actually installed/unistalled it 4 times). if you read the reviews on the app market, there's a ton of complaints from ICS users stating it's causing probs too. they're right. at least in my case.

Oh wow. I installed it right after getting the phone and didn't even look at the reviews because I figured "hey, its optimized now, must be legit." I'll have to look them over again and give uninstalling a shot, see how much of a difference it makes. It would be great if that was indeed the reason for the reboots.

i had a random power off w/ my first gnex. I was texting using the native messenger app, in the middle of a text, it powered off.

since my 2nd gnex, I haven't had that issue ... knock on wood.

Yep, a guy on another forum im on just posted that his reboots disapeared once he got rid of flash :)

First random reboot this morning, about 3 days into my ownership of this phone. It was just sitting on my bedside table doing nothing when it happened. Will be keeping an eye on this phone...

I haven't had an Android phone that hasn't done a random reboot at some point.

I've been having random reboots as well, but unlike others mine have only occurred during phone calls. I've had about 6-7 reboots and all but one time happened as I was using the slider to answer the call. The other time it just shutdown during the middle of the call. The weird thing is that it only happens to the same 2 people when they call. Anyone else having these issues or any troubleshooting advice?

I removed quite a few apps today after Random reboot number 9 since Monday.. It even does it during calls..

:'( Still love the phone... Non rooted

Do any of you folks who are seeing random reboots have Osmos installed? I had seen occasional device crashes before (mostly the listening-to-music-while-plugged-into-the-wall bug that's on the google boards), but after installing Osmos I saw 4 crashes in under 24 hours before I removed the game. Only one of those was while playing; the other three were completely random. It seems like the game is improperly executing when it's inactive in the background, maybe?

(And it's a shame, as I really like the game and wish I could leave it installed.)

Also had my first yesterday... Had the phone since day one. Plus it seems like my battery is dying faster lately. Come ooonnnn updates!!

I've owned the phone since around launch time and have had about 3 random reboots, none during any critical operations or phone calls. Not even close to a deal-breaker for me, overall very satisfied with the phone.

Although the keyboard lag in horizonal position is still very annoying.
