SO about two days I downloaded HandcentSMS....good program, looks great and easy to use. Has a lot of Great features, one specifically is the "popup" for incoming SMS. I got the stock Messaging all turned off, including notification tunes and top notification.

My problem, however, lies in the fact that I believe this thing is hoggin down on the battery.....I can not say for certain, but i believe so. Unplug the phone with very little use after 1hr, its down to 93%. By very little use i mean a few text messages, no internet/email or anything. That number is from the Fancy Widget Icon and confirmed through the Battery Watcher app also installed.

Just strange, always seemed like it would take much longer to take away from battery.

Well firstly, I always tell people to not pay attention to the first 10% or so of battery "loss". A lot of the time when you unplug you're phone it's not truly at 100%. The software usually forces the battery to drain slightly after it's fully charge to prevent an overcharge which would cause damage to the phone.

Secondly, if this sort of abnormal drain is occurring beyond 90%, then try uninstalling Handcent for a day or two and seeing if you see an improvement. Sometimes it's a matter of trial and error.

One way of checking this out is by downloading an app called Spare parts, open it and go to battery history, then select from the drop down menu at the top CPU usage, from the next drop down menu you can choose since last unplugged, and it will give you a break down of what programs are utilizing most.

i do not use handcents pop up feature so i am not sure if it uses alot of battery,,,,i find the pop up feature intrusive and would rather just have the notification bar let me know when a text has arrived

the only good thing about the Pop up is that when you are in the middle of doing something you can answer a question and go back about your work without backing out, or going back into the screen. I will check into spare parts now.
