Hang up on people with my face

I have been hanging up on people right an left mid conversation with my G2 up to my face. Sometimes my face opens up the dialer and starts hitting buttons too, and sometimes I put people on mute.

Has anyone else had this issue?

No I have not had that problem. Holding the phone up to your ear should give you a bit of clearance between the screen and your face. Either you hold the phone in a unique way, or..... the problem is your face. Or your mom.

lol Just kidding up there, but this is the first I've heard of a problem like this... interesting.

I usually hold just the speaker to my ear, and the rest of the phone at an angle a little away from my face, but I did hit a number with my ear when I was with customer service. Other than that, the proximity sensor seems to work fine in keeping me from hitting stuff accidentally.

I went and watched myself talk on my phone in the mirror and the buttons and screen seem to light up and go dark on and off while talking on the phone...I'm guessing I have a defective unit then...

The screen is meant to activate when it senses you remove the phone from your mouth. If you don't do a lot of head bobbing that simulates this motion, you could have a defective unit. Like I said very weird.

I have had this problem repeatedly and I am considering taking the phone back if there's not a fix to this. I've hung up on so many calls accidentally. And no, I don't care to have to hold the phone away from my face or in some certain way to make calls. I want to be able to talk on a phone the way that has worked with every other phone I've ever had. Love the speed and feel of the internet and apps but dammit, I need a PHONE too. Anyone know of a fix?

Alright I went to the T-mo store today to see if my G2 was defective, The rep and I played with my phone and the demo phone, and the demo phone worked fine, my phone obviously has a problem.

What I think the problem might be however is the screen protector I was using. I was using the T-mobile anit-smear protector.

I think this protector refracts the light differently, and causes light to hit the sensor from angles that it shouldn't.

This is my theory because on my g2 with the protector I can not see the sensor at all, however at the store I could easily see the sensor on the demo G2.

I removed my screen protector and installed a new one (this time from phantom skinz) that has a cut out for the sensor.

I'm going to try it out tomorrow and I'll let everyone know if its working fine now or not.

My Dad's Palm Pre proximity sensor went out and he HATED life there for a while because it did that same thing. Had to call everyone speakerphone lol

I have had this exact problem and it isd driving me insane! It's not the screen protector because I don't even have one on my phone. No matter how I hold the phone I am hanging up, muting, or just dialing numbers with my cheek. I did find an app in the market called "faceblock" for 99cents and it has been a lifesaver.

Although it's a lil extra work to turn it on and off, it beats calling someone back 50 times to have a simple conversation! My friends and I are greatfull for this app...lol. Give it a try if nothing else works.

Very odd. The phone should have a proximity sensor that turns the screen off while you hold the phone to your head (regardless of angle) as long as you are not using speakerphone or bluetooth.

I would check to see what applications you have recently installed. One of them might be interfering with the proximity sensor or simply be keeping the screen on during a call.

Has it always done this or is this a fairly new behavior?

And here I was hoping for some epic story about how you headbutt your phone to hang up... Are you sure you're not moving the phone weird? This is a strange problem indeed...

This happens to me on occasion because of my bloody huge face and Amazonian beard. The sensor works 9/10 of the time but somehow my face touches something or generates little fingers and brings the screen to life and viola. The other option is I put it up to my face just a touch too fast and hit speakerphone before it starts ringing. Thanks mom and dad! -Pk

upSoundDown and other apps mess with proximity sensor. If you factory reset the phone and still have this problem I would check into getting it replaced.

I'm not sure about the Zagg's protector, I am currently using a Phantomskinz protector. I've used a Zagg's protector on my G1 and really did not like it, I much prefer the phantomskinz one i'm using now. This one has a little cut out for the sensor so there is nothing covering it up.

Thanks for the follow up. My wife is also having the same issue. Somehow, during the conversation, the call either mutes or hangs up. I'll take it to my local TMob and get it checked.

Muting all the time

I am having this issue constantly. I don't hang up on people, but I frequently mute them and/or put them on speaker phone. Both of those buttons are the bottom right of the screen.

I actually was having tons of issues with dropped calls -- and I've received two new G2s from Tmobile already. And the muting issue happened with all three.

I'm going to give that Faceblock option a try.... it would be nice if there was a fix to this, though.

I have accidentally put a call on hold before with my ear, as the hold button is at the top of the screen.

Now I usually just hit the button at the top of the unit to turn off the screen, before putting the phone up to my ear.
