Hangouts notifications

I am using hangouts to get my Google voicemail. I am not getting any notification when I get a new voicemail. It is set to play a noise and vibrate but I am not getting that nor am I getting any notification in the status bar. When I open hangouts, it does show the new voicemail though.

Go into the settings to make sure notifications are enabled. There might not be a separate notification for the received voicemail. Instead, it might be received as a notification of an incoming text message/alert, and will provide you with the notification for that.

Notifications are enabled in hangouts for Google voicemail. They are greyed out for some because I use textra. In the phone app settings, notifications are enabled for the hangouts app.

I have tried disabling /enabling the notifications for hangouts multiple times with no luck (Both inside the app and in the App info) . Any suggestions?
