Hard press home to bypass lock screen not working consistently

I've enabled the feature to skip the lock screen with a hard pressed of the home button. It makes the phone easier to unlock when I'm in a "trusted location" instead of reaching for fingerprint sensor, power button, lock screen, or facial/iris recognition, which barely works when I'm wearing glasses or wearing a hat, etc.

Anyone else running into this? Happens pretty much randomly throughout the day, so I it's kind of difficult to troubleshoot.

What does it do when you hard press? No response?

I've noticed a few times hard pressing the button to unlock requires I do it 2 or 3 times for it to work. My bet is its software because I noticed a display unit in store doing exact same. And now this news about random touchscreen issues. I have no other touch issues other than the home button unlock.

I don't think it is the home button that's the problem - it's the "trusted location" that is ridiculously unreliable. Had this same issue with S7, S8 and now the S9 and S9+. Trusted location works when it wants to, no rhyme or reason to it.
