Hardware Buttons

I looked at similar threads but did not find a definitive answer to this:

If I buy a phone that has hardware buttons, and upgrade to ICS (assuming that such a thing is possible), will the hardware buttons still work?

Thanks.

I think there have been definitive answers many times.

The buttons will work. Look at the Nexus S if you want proof.

It's an option in the source code to have the on screen buttons show or not, as was seen in some custom ICS roms. The sane default is to disable them if the phone has hardware buttons.

The buttons 100% work as you'd expect. And there will be no onscreen buttons.

ICS is mean to work with either setup, but is designed with on-screen buttons in mind.
