hardware issues

Long story short, the bottom inch and a half of my galaxy nexus was accidentally dropped in liquid. I immediately pulled it out, pulled the back case + battery out. Phone acted whacky and kept rebooting so I took a friends advice and dunked the thing if rice for several hours and use a low heat on the blow dryer to dry any residual moisture within the device. An hour later the device booted up, no problems!

But then came trouble....Upon charging my device, and pulling the charger out, I noticed the battery indicator was stuck on charging mode. I thought no big deal...a couple hours later the screen would spontaneously come on and when I hit the power button to shut the screen off, it would shut off for about 2 seconds only to come back on saying the device was "charging." The only way I could get the screen to shut off was to plug the charger in and then shut off the screen manually.

This is becoming a bit of a nuisance and I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction so I know what needs to be replaced internally so I can resolve this issue?

Probably did damage to the mother board and USB charging port. I don't think there is going to be an easy fix for this.

crap! worst case scenario, if I attempted to fix both, how much would it run and how difficult would it be?

Not sure on the price, but I know the USB port is normally soldered to the mother board so unless your up to some work thats not an easy fix. Plus don't quote me here but I think the motherboard is a non replaceable item as in buying a used one or whatever off eBay, etc because I think it carries the device's serial number, etc with it so thats the type of fix an authorized repair shop might have to handle to make the device all legit.

Again, I'm shooting from the hip on the motherboard part with the serial number, etc..

So i did some research and i'm looking up other posts and one suggestion that's being tossed around is to purchase a verizon galaxy nexus with a busted lcd online and swap the motherboards. Any chance you'd know if this would work and if all my data would be wiped?

I think that's probably your best bet. Whether or not it works out, it may be that your only method of data retrieval will be through data already synchronized to your Google account or other cloud services. Try pulling the battery out and holding the power button down for around ten seconds to clear any static buildup. It can interfere with charging readouts, and it doesn't hurt to try.
