In the situation that the OP describes, I think another good idea would be to have a backup plan that doesn't involve making a phone call and waiting 3-10 minutes for help/police to arrive... Even when your backup phone works, it won't keep you from being assaulted or robbed. Phones are useful tools, but woefully ineffective when it come to self defense. Just a friendly tip.

I dont know, I bet if you got the right shot with an X, million to one, they may have second thoughts,lol but yes especially in this case, always having a backup is never a bad idea. Get a old school blackjack and swing away!

One option is to pull the back off the x and use it as a cutting edge... It's not razor sharp, but enough of an edge to draw enough blood to make an attacker think twice of coming back. Use a slicing motion to the face for maximum effect, as the head tends to bleed more without too much danger. Also helps to identify the attacker. S/he will have a large gash on their face. And it will be pretty wicked.
