Has the TB been a disappointment?

Now that the phone has been out for many months, and I've had it since it was first introduced, I can't get over the feeling that the TB had so much wasted potential. It seems like it's one large contradiction. I love the screen and the speed of LTE, but hate the battery life when it runs on LTE. There aren't many apps to take advantage of the 4G network, but the one that was touted initially will probably never come -- Skype, and one that many 3G phones already have -- Netflix is MIA. Other phones are getting or shipping with Gingerbread and yet it's far off in the distance for the bolt. Add a great camera to it's list of positives, yet when filming video, you can barely hear your subjects. Again, so many contradictions. I guess I'm posting this because I was really looking for a phone that I could keep for a year and be satisified, but I haven't really been totally satisfied with the bolt from day 1. Here's to hoping something really great is released by Verizon in the next 6 months that doesn't have an Apple logo on it.

I agree. Phone is awesome till they screwed it up with reboots. No skype & Netflix:(. 4G LTE is great if you have a power source if not you can't really use it.

I stay in 3G almost all the time, but even handicapped it still runs circles around my Dinc#1 so I can't complain.

As you said a lot of wasted potential though.

Totally agree. To me sometime the phones very slow. The weather widget does not show location. And it drop from 4g to 3g like crazy. I am beginning to wonder what the difference between this and my storms 2. At least with B.B all my email was pushed. I am starting to see all the phone companies have problems . Don't care who it is . R.I.M , HTC, Motorola they all do.

Don't we already have some of these threads?

Not to me. Love it. GB and Netflix are awesome along witht he rest of the phone ...and don't with the shouldn't have to root stuff... one of the reasons I got the TB was because I knew it was going to have an awesome dev community.

no disappointment here w/my wife's and my Tbolts.
yesterday was another flawless Tbolt-use day filled with about 6 hours of navigation help, 10 hours of winamp, and ~2 hours of web surfing on top of normal text/voice use. No complaints.

Don't know why everyone is complaining about battery life on 4G. I run 4G all day everyday and its only once in a blue moon that I don't get a full days use on a single charge.

Thunderbolt HO!!!!

Actually, I'm disappointed with the camera. It's pretty poor with indoor lighting. In videos, you get lots of motion blur indoors. My wife's Incredible 2 camera doesn't have that problem. My old droid didn't have that problem.

The phone has been excellent! 17 hours on half of the extended battery. No unwanted reboots.

It even makes a great phone.

I would buy it again in a minute.

I love my Thunderbolt. 4G LTE is GREAT, I get a day and a half of use out of it every charge, and I have to use it a lot while I'm at work (heavy security and proxy where I'm at, but I have a great need to do a lot of research for the projects I work on). I upgrade from an OG Droid to this, and I haven't regretted it once.

the thunderbolt is an amazing piece of hardware.

no disappointment here. every day i am still amazed at what it can do.

Interesting. Yesterday I got 3 hours of battery life with a 5 minute phone call and no surfing or anything else. I'm in a very stong 4G area.

Two Bolts in this household. Second one bought last week after the great experience with first one since release. No re-boots, great GPS and perfectly satisfactory battery life in 4G market. Of the 10 smartohones I have owned the Bolt is clearly the best although my Inc, now in the hands if another family member was a close second.

I guess Im lucky (or just rooted). My gps starts to work in under a second, I have had no reboots, and I easily go all day (i do have the new extended 2750 from this site)... I have at least 5 active widgets that sync manually if given the choice or the longest amount of time till they have too. I really don't remember how my phone performed battery wise before I rooted. I love this phone, I had the Dinc before I got the Tbolt.

I will never buy an HTC phone again. My hardware is falling apart and the other issues are just to much for me. Coming from an OG Droid, that thing was a tank compared to this pos.

root = all problems solved

its really that simple, the hardware is very good, even the battery to be honest

i rooted and installed a new kernel, radio, and rom and it pretty much solved every problem.

You get the best of everything, gingerbread, u can overclock to 2.0ghz, u can get sense 3.0

I was even able to go back to the stock battery instead of using the extended battery after I rooted

In my opinion Thunderbolt is the biggest pile of garbage that rolled out of HTC lately.. Its way to bulky.. a Beta concept phone for LTE all around..

Thats why my Incredible is humming along, faster than ever!

Baahahahahaha

Good for you Gorilla. Have fun with your amazing Droid Incredible in the Droid Incredible forums though please.

Only had the phone a week, but the only complaint I have is that the screen is invisible outdoors. Everything is amazing. Speed is great on 3G. I had already prepared myself before I even purchased the phone to expect some reboots and terrible battery life. I have had zero reboots and the battery life is better than on my BlackBerry, which I didn't think was possible. This is akin to having a computer in my pocket. I guess my experience differs from many, but I can only speak of what I know. I also was expected to have to root the phone, but the performance has been so good out of the box I don't want to fool with it.
