Those of you who are rooted and are enjoying unlimited wireless/wired tethering - has Verizon sent any threatening emails your way or charged you for excessive data?

Well, I have 4 lines that all have unlimited everything so if they want to start nit pickin' w/me, They Are Fired! It's all for luxury anyway so I don't need em'. I got Boost Mobile's number anyway.......

From what i was told they or not . They or going to take the unlimited away and you will pay so much for a block of data

well right now the tethering is free so they can not say anything, it does not mention that you have to tether with their app

if they are going to complain about the couple times a month I use my phone for my kids to get online with their ipods in the car then I am going to set my phone up to use data intense apps when I am sleeping and really take advantage of my unlimited data......maybe I will just listen to pandora all night while I sleep ;)

Currently on the charge you get free tethering which runs until the 6th so they really can't say much. However I know for a fact a few people who have gotten hit by letters and steep bills from VZW for using it when not paying for it. Mind you the people DO NOT have a Charge or tBolt who are currently getting it for free. Bottom line is they are watching but if you do not go crazy crazy style using it I highly doubt they will catch on to you using it.

You or right. If you have the unlimited package they or not messing with you. They or doing away with the unlimited package and going to a amount of block date. So when you up grade you will lose your unlimited and have to pick a data package. You can still tether but they or hoping to make money on the over usage

If I have the unlimited plan and I root my phone for tethering can Verizon find out anyway? Or will it just look like I am always using my data plan?

The only way you will lose your unlimited data is if you make a change to you plan. NOT an upgrade.

Big G is correct, you won't lose unlimited data by upgrading.

No you do not lose your unlimited package as long as you stay with android smart phones..
the only ones who have to worry about limited usage is the ones who are now buying the smart phones.
this is straight from the horses mouth..once again..
if you are already a subscriber to unlimited data etc.. and you stay with smart phones all you do is get new every two if so desired you still will be on unlimited data plans..
if you are new to Verizon, you will have a teired data limit..

just call *611 and the voice recorded msg will tell you the same...

so stick with unlimited package from Verizon buy staying with their smart phones...upgrade to new phone old phone whatever as long as its a smart phone ,aka, android, aka, droid etc..

Back in the olden days (2008) I was tethering with pdanet on my Palm Centro. They had a way to detect it back then and they put a stop to it. The worst they did was redirect your traffic to their tethering signup page which was a reasonable $15 back then. You were even allowed to sign up and terminate it the next day only paying $0.50 for that day. (you can still do this but you have to pay the $30 up front and receive a prorated discount of the difference on the next bill)
I fully expect the same to happen at some point. Why turn off users while they are lining up in droves to sign 2 year contracts? Watch how fast it gets locked down as soon as that line begins to level off or network capacity becomes a problem. The first salvo has already been fired by them asking Google to remove tethering apps from the market. The next will be the lockdown and redirects.

To date I have not seen any actual evidence of VZW taking any action more than what I mentioned above. Blog and twitter posts do not count as evidence. Anyone claiming and not posting an actual copy of their bill showing 'penalties or violations' are trolling IMO.

Greetings Gents.. Mind if I resurrect this thread :) .. I just need a clear and plain answer. So upgraded from the Iphone4 to the Driod Max.. I guess I should say I have been with verizon for over 8 years and I have my "GrandFathered" unlimited data plan rolled over. My VZ data on my new driod shows me my data count but then says "Unlimited" on the bottom. Sooooo.. We have crappy internet in my apartment complex. So I rooted my driod and "Jail broke" it.. 4GLTE is blazin fast.. I just dont want to get hit with an outlandish bill at the end of the month?

Anyone with the same scenaro jailbreak their driod and theter it a lot? have you gotten any notification from Verizon? or any surpriseing bills? I mean just from playing COD for about 2 hours yesterday my data usage only went up 300mb.. So I dont assume I will be doing 20gb a month even with several hours of gaming each day

Thanks all.. Sorry if this is a silly question

very cool.. thanks for the quick reply.. Im not going to go too crazy with the tether for the first couple months just to be on the safe side. I also downloaded a different hotspot app. Didnt really want to use the one the Razr came with. I've just been reading so much mixed reviews. Thanks again
