Have question about multitasking

I'm coming from the iPhone and of course it didn't have multitasking....my question is, is there a way to turn off multitasking for some apps? Every app I open seems to stay open in the background when I don't want them to. It just seems like a waste of memory to keep my music player or my email open when i don't even need it open?

The Android system is meant to do the multitask management itself, you don't need to bother. Apps in the background rest without using resources, but once you need that precious memory for something you just opened, the system will kill off old dormant tasks by itself. Don't worry about it!
