Have to restart phone to charge it

[Android Central Question]

I have a T-Mobile S8 on the most recent stock firmware, unrooted. A week or so ago, I started getting a system notification on USB options, with Use USB For. It seems to default to Charge Connected Device.At the same time, when I plug my phone in to the original Samsung USB charger, or connect it to any other charging device,it doesn't charge. I have to restart my phone, then it will charge.

I just finished a hard reset and nothing changed. Developer mode was setup before I hard reset the phone and is not now after the reset.

Any ideas?

Welcome to Android Central! You're getting that USB notification even when nothing is plugged in? Make sure the USB port is clear of any debris.

Try reinstalling the firmware using Smart Switch: http://www.sammobile.com/forum/showthread.php?t=29914. If the problem still happens, it's probably a hardware fault -- contact Samsung for warranty repair.
