Have you cracked your Nexus 4 yet?

Hmm. Perhaps, a bumper isn't a good idea anymore. I was fine with a bumper on my iPhone but it seems like people's Nexus back is cracking for no reason.

For no reason? No. Glass doesn't magically break on its own. Many people who have a cracked N4 without dropping it stuffed it in their pockets and then did something to put additional stress on the phone's frame or either face. Others subjected the phone to large and rapid temperature variations and were unlucky. A tiny fraction may have had a defective phone from the start that was doomed to crack eventually due to a manufacturing fault. Hard to say, but there's always a reason.

The N4 is definitely more fragile than your typical polycarbonate plastic phone. Don't treat it like one and expect it to hold up to abuse. Treat it as a piece of electronic equipment with glass panels on both sides. Just because it's small doesn't mean you shouldn't treat it with care. Put a case on it and/or screen protectors if you're worried. Be aware of where it is, don't put it on the edge of a table where it could get knocked off (especially if the floor below is concrete, tile, or some other hard material). Don't put it on a non-grippy, slanting surface like your car's dashboard.

And above all, remember that the majority of N4 users and owners are walking around with fully intact phones. The ones posting here are the unlucky ones.

My Nexus 4 has fallen a couple times, at least once a couple feet onto concrete, and so far it's perfect. It's naked too.

this is the result of the phone falling from the second floor onto marble floors...i think it was marble anyway. it was a very hard material lets just say...

the bumper didnt help much in this case...

for the record...ive dropped the nexus 4 a bunch of other times before this and it held up perfectly. there were a bunch of times where it hit concrete HARD and i was sure the screen was cracked, but it held up. i dont think any phone would hold up after falling from the second floor onto a hard floor. i wish it wouldve fallen on the back...itd still be functional atleast. the sexiness of the phone is worth the risk of the glass back breaking imo. part of me kind of wishes i had a better case for it...maybe this couldve been avoided, but i also dont want some huge clunky thing covering the phone up. i was extra careless this time around...very unlikely that this situation would happen again...i would hope not anyway.

i also checked a few repair places near me to see how much it would cost. my gf got her iphone fixed for $80...her screen was shattered just like mine, so i expected a similar price. i called them up and they told me it was $250 to fix a cracked screen for the nexus 4. i asked why there was such a difference and he said it was a lot more complicated to get the screen off the nexus 4 and then put the new one on. then i called LG and as others have said...they dont give you an exact price until you send it in. i got my phone through t-mobile...i was sure i didnt have insurance on it, but i decided calling them up couldnt hurt. turns out i did have insurance and theyre sending me a new one tomorrow. i guess that's the one positive of me getting the phone through t-mobile.

Now I'm kinda scared. I always drop my phone at least once, sort of like a christening. I'd rather not christen this one......

I think it depends on how it lands. Anyway i just decided to get back and front screen protectors and that's it.

How did you manage to drop your phone from a second floor? Did your girlfriend got mad or something?

The easiest way to explain this would be to say I was extremely drunk... But it still stands out as probably the dumbest thing I've ever done.

i dropped my phone just a few days ago and ended up cracking a little bit of the bottom half of my phone. after droppin your phone did your touch screen stop working? some odd reason mine did :-\

after A horrible ordeal with a local company, After 9 weeks of being ****ed around i finally got my Nexus 4 back
Put it into my Rearth Hybrid cover, Getting out of the car and it feel between the seat and seat buckle

Picked up thinkning itd be fine...no way could it be damaged,
But alas this brittlle piece of **** has done me over again, something must have caught the corner of the screen as the bottom of screen has a small crack and the 3main buttons wont work,

Iv literally had enough of this phone, Amazing phone, one of thee most brittle , flimsey phones iv ever had

Time to go back to an s3

This is the result of the phone falling from 2.6 ft on the floor.... never fallen before this . It's a big problem to me, in Brazil LG don't have N4 screen to sell to your clients....sad but true... :( i buy on ebay and waiting for this... well.. "keep it to yourself" ... i think it's gonna be alright :'(

Alright here goes my story. I had this phone since, February and you know I took care of it, because I heard of these dropped stories. Finally I bought myself a nice Incipio Feather Snap on Case. Made the phone bulky, I didn't like that.. but I used it for a good couple of months now. So i've been naked for awhile, I just enjoy the design in the back.. even thought my sweaty palms. and the screen protector smudge it like no other. I clean it on a regular basis. I've dropped it from my table in the kitchen... on the carpet. No damage, no problem. I kept thinking like, "Dang these guys, just don't know how to take care of their phones". Kidding, but one day, this was 2 weeks ago. My girlfriend and I, were sitting on a bench... you know at least 2 feet off the ground, I had a cardigan on, those pockets aren't deep. So we were talking and joking around, and finally I don't know what movement I did, but I turned around really quickly and i felt something come out. My phone came out I was like crud! It hit my foot and it fell on the floor, Screen facing up. So I was like "oh cool, it survived!" Nope I turned it over and I have two cracks going passed the nexus logo and going down towards the LG logo. I couldn't believe it, and man did my heart break.

Hopefully you can see the cracks in the picture. It looks kind of cool with the Crack going through the nexus logo. Reminds me kind of V for Vendetta. :-\

I totally know what you mean about cardigan pockets. I think I've dropped my Nexus 4 at least 3 times because of the way cardigan pockets are designed. Thankfully, it's always been with a case. But still, a cautious tale for those that like to sport the Mr. Rogers look.

Have owned this phone since about March or so. I previously had an iPhone 5 and I sold it. Why? Because I couldn't justify having a $600 phone when a $350 phone could accomplish just as much, unlocked. So I bought a Nexus 4 and sold my iPhone 5. Biggest mistake of my life.

I love this phone, I really do. It's the perfect phone for me in terms of power and performance. But seriously, what were they thinking? I love all the egotistical selfish people who spout out about how if you drop a phone and it breaks, you deserve it. Really? Get over yourself. As an engineer, I say that when you design a product, you have to think about the durability in the circumstance that it will be used. HTC, Samsung and hell, even Apple have considered this.

A cell phone is something you carry around. You hold it in your hands. You use it to take pictures. You use it to play games. It's constantly moved around and there are probably hundreds, if not thousands of opportunities where you can drop it throughout the day. I've owned, and dropped: HTC Thunderbolt, Samsung Galaxy Nexus, HTC Rezound, HTC One (2012 edition), Galaxy S3, HTC Evo 4G, iPhone, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 5, HTC Sensation. None of the phones had a serious problem with glass breaking. My original iPhone didn't crack until I dropped it face first on my classroom tile floor from 6 feet in the air. And even then, the screen worked perfectly! I'm not saying I'm a clumsy guy, but why design a phone that has to be cradled around like it's a baby? That's POOR design.

I dropped my Nexus 4 from 6 inches above the ground. It slipped out of my sweater pocket. Front is ruined and bottom right corner is unresponsive. Really? I had a Rearth Ringke Slim White case and an anti-glare screen protector on it. Didn't help. From that short of a fall? This is a SERIOUS problem to have. If LG charges $140 to replace it, I will have a nearly $500 phone. Why did I even sell the iPhone?
