Having some Issues with my Nexus 6P

Hey guys. My 6P is coming up on 7 months old and lately I've been experiencing issues. My microphone seems to fail at the beginning of every call I answer. The call needs to be accepted for maybe 3-4 seconds before the other person can hear me. Secondly, it powers off at random from time to time. Not sure why by usually only when I'm walking like the battery gets dislodged. Thirdly, I have a custom wallpaper but I'll try to turn my phone on from time to time and it'll briefly show the default wallpaper but then it will look like it's attempting to unlock only to go back to a dark screen like the phone is off. When this happens, I need to power cycle it to bring it back.

Anyone have any insight? I wipe my cache partition every security update but things don't seem to get much better. Phone gets crazy hot sometimes also but that's been this way since I very first got the device.

Do these also have a manufacture's warranty of a year as well? How does that usually work?

Thanks in advance.

Personally, I don't think this is a hardware problem; more likely a bad app which is messing up your phone.

Try starting the phone in Safe Mode - if the problems persist, it may be hardware or a corrupt OS. If the problems go away, start figuring out which of your apps needs to go.

Safe Mode:
  1. Turn phone on
  2. Hold power button for a few seconds until "Power off" banner appears
  3. Tap and hold Power off banner for a few seconds until "Restart in safe mode" appears

The issues (minus the microphone) are very sporadic but this is a good thought. Never crossed my mind. Thanks for the input!

If the phone is having heating issues, there's definitely something physically wrong, even if it's caused by a bad piece of software. My phone doesn't get hot, even when under heavy use for an extended period while charging in a relatively warm environment. The phone is designed to throttle the CPU at a certain temperature, and if your phone is getting hot to the touch, it's not doing that.

For the microphone issue, this seems like it could be a network issue more than anything, where the call is working in one direction only for a few seconds. This has happened to me before on a bad signal, but not on this phone. Do you happen to notice if this is during wifi calling only, cellular data only, or both?

The wallpaper and screen lock could be caused by a number of things from a corrupt OS install to an app trying to replace the lock screen with a widget and fighting the OS while doing so. Do you have any apps which might put a widget on your lock screen? For example, I use Power Amp, which has a lock screen widget and sometimes things get a bit funky when I turn the screen on, though I've never had to power cycle it as a result.

The phone shutting off randomly seems like it could be a loose battery connection, but wouldn't the connection still be loose when it's powered back up? My first thought would be that an app which is using your location may cause the phone to reboot - hence why it only happens when you're walking (and it tries to update location).

After Safe Mode it's time to try a Factory Reset and then see what happens. If possible don't load up a bunch of apps - just update the built-in one and see how the device behaves.

Your descriptions make me think there's a hardware issue, but until you eliminate rogue apps there's no way to be certain. Heck, I'd reload the OS from scratch before I hassled with a warranty replacement. YMMV.

Today at the dog park, the phone was almost too hot to touch at the top of it. That is good info on what should be occurring.

The network thing doesn't seem logical to me only b/c I've worked in the same location for quite some time and had 4 different phones and never had this issue before.

I do have a lock screen widget but only for my flashlight app. Nothing more. It's very simple and light so I can't see why that would be causing the issue but it's certainly a possibility.

I've started deleting apps that are rarely used in order to see if this continues to happen.

Thanks for the info!

A factory reset has crossed my mind. Would prefer not to lose all my data so I guess I'd have to root unless there's another backup tool like Kies for Samsung but rooting would void my warranty so I don't want to do that.

Any apps that allow full backups so I can store it on my PC and restore it once a factory reset has happened?

The first thing that happens when you unlock the bootloader (to enable rooting) is the erasure of all data on the phone.
