Think i figured it out. At least for me. Turns out that it is not just the "three finger gesture" that turns this on, for me the "one ear gesture" does too.

It ONLY happens to me when I am trying to cradle the phone between my ear and shoulder. What happens is the top of my ear moves far enough away from the proximity sensor to allow the screen to come on then my ear is on the touchscreen and the phone is interpreting this as the three finger swipe.

So this is my issue, but I could see on other people's phones that this could be the same, or it could be an indication of a proximity sensor issue.

Settings > Display, gestures & buttons > HTC gestures: Uncheck this option

This has resolved the issue for me, let me know if this helps.

Thanks for this info. I took my EVO into the Sprint store and the rep looked thru my phone for a moment and told me I don't have the updated software from HTC.com and I was having the HTC Media problem. All I had to do: come home, Google the problem and there's / here's the answer, thanx. & my device is not rooted, I just have Go Launcher EX running a iOS7 theme. SMDH, dumb cat ( rep ) ... LoL

Thanks a million for this simple solution; I didn't know how this annoying ad started but it's the last thing you want interfering with your phone calls. Too bad if you have elected to use the gestures - then you're stuck with Media Link ads!
