Does the 6t follow normal usb c to hdmi protocols for watching streaming video etc.? Anybody try a cable that worked well?

According to gsmarena's specs it use the slow usb 2.0 type c and that is not compatible with the HDMI protocol. It will have to be usb 3.1 to work with the HDMI protocol. At least that is my understanding.
