HDMI port??

Nothing wrong with that, an its an easy way to stay with current tech. Wife: we gotta buy school clothes
Johnly: I gotta have a sweet phone to take pics
of the kids
Wife: ok I see the logic

hey it could happen :)

Lol! I like this!

HDMI port is really nice but do you always carry around a HDMI cable with you just in-case you want to watch that one movie on a big screen? And the way it was converted, it's probably poor quality for a bigger screen.

Still nice to have but if it didn't have it, I would still get the phone.

Really surprised to hear so few people care about the HDMI port

I've been waiting for months to take a look at the Thunderbolt and was checking on it almost daily leading up to the Nov. 23 release date that was rumored for so long. Now I have a reminder on my calendar to check what happens at CES, and I'm really excited about it!

I actually do use the HDMI port on my DX quite frequently. I live hundreds of miles from my family, and they often take videos of kids in the family from their phones and send them to mine, so the easiest thing is to just hook up my HDMI cable and watch them on my TV. I can understand, however, that this isn't the situation a lot of people are in and the feature may not be important to them. I also know there is such a thing as a USB-to-HDMI converter, but I've never used one and don't know if that would cause a loss of the great video output from the direct HDMI connection.

I want to tale a look at the Thunderbolt vs. the Olympus to compare features. The only thing about my DX that I don't like is the menu buttons. I had a D2 before the DX and I simply can't get used to the menu buttons on the DX. If all other things on the two phones that are important to me are equal, I'll choose the one that has the touch buttons for the menus even if I have to give up the HDMI port for that and find a workaround. I use the HDMI port a few times a week but I use the menu buttons about fifty times a day, so that's a trade-off I'd be willing to make.

Congrats to any of you who get the phone! Sounds like it's going to be a great one, HDMI or not!

HTC did recently join the DLNA group and has a new DLNA puck (sort of like the AppleTV) available so I wonder if it will have it or not? It seems odd that you wouldn't offer a feature like this especially if this "isn't your next phone, it's the one after that" tag. It had better come loaded for a gun fight if the Moto Etna is coming too.

Honestly unless it has HDMI mirroring I would rather have the HTC dlna box so I can have that hooked up to the TV and have my phone anywhere in the house

I'm guessing it'll use DLNA, going by the "stream 8MP photos, wirelessly" tag in these ads that Engadget has been running.

What about a micro usb video out like the Droid Incredible. That would be a nice compromise, DLNA and video out.

I'm betting you can do TV Out via micro USB like the Incredible, be convenient if it did. If the TV set you wanna use is DLNA challenged. you can always buy one of those DLNA wireless link doohickies that HTC has coming out. but I know what you're thinking...

Why should I have to buy something extra? My DX/EVO came with this ability out the box. All I had to do is buy a cable...which is still something extra...but still, I'd much rather stand beside my TV set and manipulate what's on the screen than do it wirelessly from my couch. How lame is that?

Such a let down. HTC dropped the ball BIG TIME with this phone
