Headphone audio output (amp?)

Just wondering if anyone has tried using a headphone amp with the tablet.

Before I shell out some cash on a portable headphone amp, I'd like to hear from anyone that's tried...are we strictly limited to the 3.5 jack or can we use the USB port to feed audio? Something like the FIIO E18 claims it could be fed via OTG cable.
