Headset Issues on my Note 4

I am using my older samsung headset that came with phone and after getting my note 4 i tired to use it but shows plugged in but still lets me use speaker while in phone and shouldnt and also when speakers off mic still dont work but all this works on the s4 and note 3

Welcome to Android Central! Sorry for the basic question, but you're sure the plug is in all the way, right? You should feel and/or hear a click when it's in.

yeah its all the way in and reset phone also

Make sure there isn't any debris in the headphone jack. Use a damp toothpick to root around, or blow it out with a can of compressed air.

Tried all that and still nothing

Do other headphones work normally? If not, then the headphone jack is probably defective. Since the phone is presumably pretty new, see if you can exchange it.

i tried that earler today and and another set i tried did not work so i guess im just unlucky.......get new phone and jack doesnt work lol

well just got done talking to a samsung tech support guy and he said that note 4 has a new feature to where old headsets dont work, need new ones that are compatible?

I suppose that may be the case, although I don't understand how a manufacturer can make a device that is not compatible with prior headsets. Usually, the incompatibility is when people try to use headsets "Made for iPhone" on an Android device.

yeah im not sure what the deal is but i was going to stop in a best buy and talk with the samsung ppl
