Hearing a blast of download(?) alerts several times a day

[Android Central Question]

Since the Oreo update on my S8, I hear what sounds like a large number of emails/alerts/messages being pushed to my phone. When I look I don't see any new items, or at the most one or two. What is causing this waterfall of tones that lasts about 5-8 seconds?
