I had to run home from college tonight for a few reasons, and when I had time to kill, I ran over to the mall to purchase a new pair of dress shoes. On my walk to the shoe store in the mall, I noticed a Radio Shack there, and decided to pop in after I got my shoes.
So, I walk into Radio Shack. There is only one employee working at that moment, and he was ringing up a customer. In addition to her, there was me and another woman in the store. I figured I would play dumb and see what the sales guy knew (or thought he knew -- we all know this goes, haha.) about the Galaxy Nexus. I stood next to the accessories, knowing the insane markup on those.
Sure enough, as soon as he finished ringing up the customer, he came over to me by the accessories. He asked if he could help me find anything. I said I was just looking around, and nonchalantly asked him what he had heard about the Galaxy Nexus' release date. He said "Well, we've got them... I think I can sell you one." (!!!) Let me go see.
He walked to the back room, and I stood over by the register. He came back, and said "I better check that I can sell this... Usually if we can't sell it there is some sort of note, but I don't see a note about it at all, and I haven't heard anything at all about it." He picks up the phone, and proceeds to call another Radio Shack manager. He gets a sales associate who tells him the manager is gone. So, he calls another manager, and again gets an associate who says the manager is gone. At this point I'm thinking I might have a shot at the phone. "Friday night, everyone is gone. Guess I gotta call the Verizon rep."
Well dang, haha.
He calls the Verizon rep, but doesn't get an answer! He comes and plays with his system for a minute, then tries the Verizon rep again. No luck! So, he goes in the back room, and comes back with a Galaxy Nexus box. At this point I'm thinking there is no way I am this lucky. He scans it, and...
"DO NOT SELL."
Well dang.
BUT! The guy was really cool, and opened the box up and let me touch it.
Ohhhh, Galaxy Nexus. How I wish I could do dirty things to you. I didn't get to put the battery in the device and power it up... But good God. Even considering the battery wasn't in it, that phone is so light. So VERY light. Just a tad heavier than the RAZR, which is disgustingly light. Oh man. The Nexus was just pure beauty. The guy talked for a moment, and I compared the phone's size to my Thunderbolt. The phone was not significantly bigger than my Thunderbolt, which made me very, very happy.
I was happy that this guy wanted to sell me a Nexus so bad, even when I mentioned I would be buying it off-contract, so he wouldn't get any commission on it. Really nice guy -- when I started talking specs, he mentioned that I should be selling phones. I've now had two Verizon employees, two Sprint employees, and a Radio Shack guy tell me that... lmao.
One thing that made me laugh there... He mentioned that it looked like the release date was now December 15th. How did he know this? He Googled it in the back room, haha! I lol'd.
So, there you have it. My trip to Radio Shack tonight. I held my true love in my hands. Don't worry, baby. We will be together soon enough.
