I had to run home from college tonight for a few reasons, and when I had time to kill, I ran over to the mall to purchase a new pair of dress shoes. On my walk to the shoe store in the mall, I noticed a Radio Shack there, and decided to pop in after I got my shoes.

So, I walk into Radio Shack. There is only one employee working at that moment, and he was ringing up a customer. In addition to her, there was me and another woman in the store. I figured I would play dumb and see what the sales guy knew (or thought he knew -- we all know this goes, haha.) about the Galaxy Nexus. I stood next to the accessories, knowing the insane markup on those.

Sure enough, as soon as he finished ringing up the customer, he came over to me by the accessories. He asked if he could help me find anything. I said I was just looking around, and nonchalantly asked him what he had heard about the Galaxy Nexus' release date. He said "Well, we've got them... I think I can sell you one." (!!!) Let me go see.

He walked to the back room, and I stood over by the register. He came back, and said "I better check that I can sell this... Usually if we can't sell it there is some sort of note, but I don't see a note about it at all, and I haven't heard anything at all about it." He picks up the phone, and proceeds to call another Radio Shack manager. He gets a sales associate who tells him the manager is gone. So, he calls another manager, and again gets an associate who says the manager is gone. At this point I'm thinking I might have a shot at the phone. "Friday night, everyone is gone. Guess I gotta call the Verizon rep."

Well dang, haha.

He calls the Verizon rep, but doesn't get an answer! He comes and plays with his system for a minute, then tries the Verizon rep again. No luck! So, he goes in the back room, and comes back with a Galaxy Nexus box. At this point I'm thinking there is no way I am this lucky. He scans it, and...

"DO NOT SELL."

Well dang. :(

BUT! The guy was really cool, and opened the box up and let me touch it. Ohhhh, Galaxy Nexus. How I wish I could do dirty things to you. I didn't get to put the battery in the device and power it up... But good God. Even considering the battery wasn't in it, that phone is so light. So VERY light. Just a tad heavier than the RAZR, which is disgustingly light. Oh man. The Nexus was just pure beauty. The guy talked for a moment, and I compared the phone's size to my Thunderbolt. The phone was not significantly bigger than my Thunderbolt, which made me very, very happy.

I was happy that this guy wanted to sell me a Nexus so bad, even when I mentioned I would be buying it off-contract, so he wouldn't get any commission on it. Really nice guy -- when I started talking specs, he mentioned that I should be selling phones. I've now had two Verizon employees, two Sprint employees, and a Radio Shack guy tell me that... lmao.

One thing that made me laugh there... He mentioned that it looked like the release date was now December 15th. How did he know this? He Googled it in the back room, haha! I lol'd.

So, there you have it. My trip to Radio Shack tonight. I held my true love in my hands. Don't worry, baby. We will be together soon enough.

Uhg, pretty pathetic when re-sellers have to search Google to find a new date which is rumored. Not even official.

Really Verizon? REALLY?

Also of note... I was curious to see the extended battery, and inquired about it. He mentioned that they were usually really good about getting accessories by launch, and that they had not received any yet. In fact, that was the only Nexus they had received. As he put it, "More indications that this wasn't ready to launch yet."

Funny, you mention that as I just logged on to see if anyone else had a similar experience. I walked into my local radio shack in NYC as well tonight and nonchalantly asked about the nexus and the girl behind the counter excitedly told me that they got 1. I asked if I could buy it and all the other girls told her not until verizon says we can. I gave her my number and asked her to call me as soon as they could sell it. They had no idea when that would be. I then walked over to the Local VZW corp store and as usual they looked and me blindly and said they had no idea.

The VZW corporate store in the building where I work had one out and activated, and I got to play with it for about 10 minutes yesterday at lunch. I felt like Gollum with The Ring. It truly is precious. All afternoon all I could think of was all the stuff I DIDN'T think to look at. I did set it on top of my DX and it is just slightly bigger - not nearly as large as I'd anticipated it might be. Feels very nice in the hand. Next week ...

I used to think fate was on my side because my contract was up on the 9th and the phone was supposed to come out on the 9th. Be careful with throwing around the idea of fate.

Cool story bro....I got a similar story from today at RadioShack, went to get some resistors though, just happened they had one so I inquired. Just didn't think it needed a forum thread about it.

That's what happens when you make your phones out of cheap plastic. Not dissing Samsung, but all of their phones are that way. Supposedly this one at least feels solid unlike some other *cauch* Charge *Caugh* Fascinate *caugh*

"Cheap plastic" = lighter AND more durable.

TitansJonne, why is that? All I said was I didn't feel I needed to post a thread about it. Bit of kettle black you got going there. GJ "FTW". I mean some of you guys are worse than the jesus phone lovers.

Same story here at the Willow Lawn Radio Shack in Richmond, VA. I walked in and asked if they got the Nexus and guess what it just came in. She went and got it for me and even let me hold the phone and look at it while she tried to see if she could sell it. She found out that they could not sell it until the 14th, but took my name and put it on the phone, so as soon as they can sell them its mine.

I'm a fascinate owner too (still have mine- powered it up a week or so ago to download official Gingerbread) and while it is light it feels cheep to me. It also gets hotter than most phones when in use.

Did the same thing at a Radio Shack while killing alone time this AM waiting for my son to finish swim class.

They had 1 in stock. Would not open the box. Said it was "sealed". Umm OK. Anyways, the manager goes in the back and pops out with the dummy unit for me to hold. I must say for a dummy unit which are not always very sturdy, the Nexus feels solid and weighty in a good way. It was NO WAY the same cheap plastic.feel like the Charge or the Stratosphere. It was about 1/2 inch taller than my TBolt and the same width. The screen portion above the buttons seemed a tad bigger in area than TBolt.

The manager tried to sell it. However when it they could not find it in the system they called the area VZW rep who quickly shot the sale down. Sigh.... So close ...

Man I really want this phone. Needless to say, the phone is now sitting in the store with my name on it.
