Hi my name is Sjoerd and im from Amsterdam.
At the moment I have a iPhone 6s but im going to switch to Android soon. Ive had the Galaxy S3 and this was fine, but the iPhones really were a lot better those days i think. But now there is nothing new on the iPhone, sure maybe AR will be very cool in the future, but for now i believe that the usabilty of Android is just much better..

The reasons that im willing to switch..
  1. The designs of android phones
  2. Google Assistant
  3. Android overall

Now i have a question right away for you all, what phone should i buy... On one hand, i would love to buy the Pixel 2, since this is the most clean android phone, but on the otherhand im thinking of waiting for the S9, since i really love the design for this phone..
But i also hear that Bixby and things like that are quite annoying.. so i really dont know what to do..

Any ideas, suggestions?

Cheers and thanks in advance,

Sjoerd

Greetings Sjoerd from Amsterdam! Welcome to the forums!
You have a huge range of amazing devices to choose from.
I have used the galaxy devices from S2 through to S8. You can disable most things these days, so if you don't want Bixby it's easy nuff to kill it...
Go to a phone shop and pick up the devices, once you have them in your hand, you will know....
They are all amazing, it's hard to go wrong these days!
Welcome one again to a forum of great ppl, they are a nice bunch of people and I'm happy to be part of it!

Thanks for the quick reply.. :)

Thats what i thought.. but i hoped you'd give me just one choice right away.. :) Since i have to buy the pixel in the USA.. its hard to get by in here..

So it is actually possible to use Google assistant instead of bixby?

Cheers

Hello, Sjoerd, and welcome to Android Central! We're glad to see that you're considering joining the world of Android - but we love all phones here, so you are welcome regardless of what platform you own/choose!

First off, great call with either the Pixel 2 or the S9. Stock Android/Samsung are equally good choices.

The good news about Bixby is that it can be turned off, so do not let that sway you if you are interested in the S9 and want to buy it when it drops. And yes, you can certainly use Google Assistant in place of Bixby on your Samsung device.

The Pixel 2 line is amazing, especially because, as you stated, it is pure Android. Which phone are you considering - the 2 XL or the smaller 2? Both phones are essentially identical, save for their overall size, screen manufacturer (LG made the 2 XL's, and Samsung made the 2's, if I remember correctly), and battery size (2700 mAh for the Pixel 2; and 3520 mAh for the 2 XL - but battery life is apparently great on both).

If you are really itching for the pure Android experience, I will always recommend the stock experience of Google phones. Plus, you wouldn't have to wait as long to get the phone; as the S9 hasn't dropped yet. But, if you are willing to wait, the S9 will be just as good in its own right.

Welcome again, and let us know what you decide!

Welcome and enjoy!

Remember that you are not legally obliged to limit yourself to one Android device. :)

Welcome to Android Central! I have a Pixel 2 XL and find it to be an excellent phone. If you're thinking of the smaller Pixel 2, I don't think you can go wrong. Google Assistant is powerful, and it's hard to beat the camera. Also, the Pixel 2 has the Visual Core, and it isn't clear if the S9 will have something similar. Since I appreciate a phone that is as free of bloatware as possible, I always prefer devices like the Pixel line.

Welcome, Sjoerd! My primary device is an iPhone 8 Plus, but I play around with Android from time to time. I’m a bit of a smartphone addict!

Hello Sjoerd, welcome to the forums at Android Central!

I have the Note 8 and I can tell you that Bixby isn't annoying.
In fact, I use it and Google assistant about the same, both have their strong and weak points.

If you can wait until the GS9, I say go for it. It should be a great phone.

Welcome to the forums. I would say if you need the phone now, get the Pixel. The S9 won't be announced until February or March, with another month or 2 before being up for sale.
