Hello and where's the FAQ

Hello everyone, I just got my new Evo 4G this week and have it rooted, but otherwise still stock. I'm coming over from the LG Optimus S forum where there was lots of info in guides and FAQ's and I was shocked to see how empty this forum is. It looks there is lots of activity in other forums but it just isn't as easy to consume as the stuff here at AndroidCentral. I wanted to go over what I have figured out so far and make sure I'm understanding it right and figure out what I need to do next.

What is with this Tampered, Locked, S-OFF stuff? My understanding so far is:

• Tampered = anytime you root, modify the ROM partition this will be set. Can be reverted if you need to file a warranty claim
• Locked/Unlocked = HTC Dev will unlock your Bootloader (?), will register your devices as Unlocked, can't be reverted and Sprint/HTC may use it to void any warranty claims
• S-ON/S-OFF = Allows you to flash custom recoveries? Kernel img? Can be reverted for warranty claims. Is easy to get S-OFF with HBoot 1.12, harder with 1.15

My current status is:
Firmware: 1.13 Rooted
HBoot: 1.12
Radio: 1.02
Tampered, Locked, S-ON, Stock recovery

So where do I go from here? My objective is to get a custom recovery where I can load a good HTC based rom (CleanRom & MeanRom look good) and CM10.
It seems like HBoot 1.12 is easier to get S-OFF, but if get S-OFF now will I need/can I get the latest firmware/hboot/radio in order to load the newest ROM's? Can I do this and stay Locked or be able to revert to stock? I have 90 days to return the phone (go Costco!) and I may look at some of the quad-core phones that will be out by December.
