Hello everyone, new here from an iPhone 5 to S4

Hi :)
Sorry can't remember yr name coz I didn't expect this to work, and now yr name is covered.
I am really needing some help, but I can't work out how to post. Is there a page I can go to that covers the basics. Or could u pass this on to someone who could help me past the initial confusion. Thanks if u can.
Helen

Hi, and welcome to Android Central!

Start with this thread. It's long, but the important stuff is at the beginning: http://forums.androidcentral.com/general-help-how/31622-getting-started-android-tips-tricks.html

Which keyboards have you tried? I think the official Google Keyboard is pretty nice--not sure if that comes preinstalled on the S4.

It wasn't but I downloaded it because I like the keyboard on my nexus 7. It's my favorite out of the ones I have tried, but I still don't like it as much as the iOS keyboard.

Hello everyone i am also new here and new having android phone specially s4 and i wanna learn more here.

Sorry I may have given the wrong impression. I'm familiar with android, but not with my new tablet. My big problem right now is that I can't work out how to post anything. I skimmed through the first few pages of the link, but it seems to be about using android devices. I need some basics on how to use this site, including which forum to use if it doesn't seem to fit any or no one seems to know how to help. Also are my comments, questions answers I have received kept somewhere, so I can find it again? And (last one) if I'm brousing and find a post that I know will be useful, can I save it?
Thanks

Yes everything is on record. You can click on the participated button to see all your threads that you have commented on.
As for the post that may be useful, I would suggest taking a screen shot of it if you are on a phone or tablet.

After rereading your question, did you need help with the forum app, or the regular site?

Hi golf driver, um I'm not sure. I didn't realize there could be a difference. Will check it out and get back to u. Ta

Good idea but I'll work out how to do that bit later. Meanwhile I'll use my laptop to get them (and links), then put it on Evernote.

Ok, first you need to distinguish between 3 different ways that you can access Android Central:

1. The AndroidCentral.com website, best viewed on your computer. Using the website gives you the most flexibility and features.
2. The Android Central app for your Android device--this is the one whose icon is the white Android character on a green background. This is a great app that allows you to access the news from Android Central as well as the forums. It is different from ...
3. The Android Central Forums app--this is the one whose icon is the orange Android head peeking up with the blue background. According to your signature, that is the one you're using on your new tablet. This app is only for the forums, and you can't access any of the news articles from the website here.

The Android Central Forums app works pretty well, and has a couple more useful features than the other Android Central app in regard to using the forums. It's a little difficult to go into detail, so I'll just see if I can answer your questions about the Android Central Forums app.

First, make sure you're logged in with your AC account. Tap the "Login" at the upper right, then enter your login information.

Along the top of the screen, you should see "Latest" for latest posts, "Forums" which gives you a list of all of the forums available on the site, "Favorites" which are the forums you can save as your favorite ones, "PM" for Private Messaging to other members, and "More" for more options.

To start a new topic, first go to the forum that you want to post in. For example, under Forums, select "Android Central Community," then "General Help and How To." (By the way, this is the best forum to post questions about a device that doesn't have its own forum.) You should now see a whole lot of existing topics (also called threads). To start a new topic, tap the menu key (either the tablet's menu button or the soft menu button on the screen, next to your Home and Back buttons). Tap "New Topic," and you can now enter a title subject and then start typing your post.

The AC Forums app keeps track of any posts that you have made up to a point. You can review them by tapping the "More" button at the upper right, then "Profile," then "View [user]'s Posts." Unfortunately, you're limited to viewing your last 20 or so posts. The website can show you many more, under the "Participated" button that Golfdriver97 mentioned.

If there's a topic that you find important and want to save for later, then you can do it two ways. The first way is to go to the Forum view, press and hold the topic that you want to save, then tap "Subscribe" when the window pops up. The second way is to enter the topic by selecting it, then tap the menu button and select Subscribe. To find these topics that you've subscribed to, tap on "Favorites" on the top bar, then tap on "Topics," which is to the right of "Forums." You'll see your subscribed topics there.

You can mark certain forums as Favorites as well, which is helpful if you usually only browse through a few different ones. The process is similar to subscribing to a topic. Just press and hold the forum that you're interested in, then tap "Subscribe." That forum will now appear in your Favorites.

Hope that helps!

Thank so much for that. 2 more questions then I'll leave this topic and head to more appropriate ones as u said. But I'll separate them. First if u don't mind can I address a question to a particular person (eg u or golf driver)?

Golf driver thank you too for helping me. I'll be moving out of this topic soon and into a more appropriate one for my further questions. It all makes much more sense now.

2nd question where or what is the menu button.

Sent from my MID using AC Forums mobile app

Since you have the S4, along the bottom portion of your device, you have 2 capacitive keys, and the Home button. The capacitive keys light up whenever you touch the screen. In order, they are Menu (the button we have been referencing to) Home (your center key) and Back.

Menu will bring up any menu that will be in almost every screen. Samsung utilizes a special key for it to help save screen real estate. Biggest rule of thumb I can give: If you dislike something about an app, try hitting this button and if settings comes up, go into that. 9/10 the answer to most people's frustration lies within.

Home brings you back to the home screen from any app. Be advised: This will leave the previous app open, just running in the background. Say for example you have the AC Forums app open and you hit Home. AC will still be active, using RAM. The next key is also important:

Back brings you one step back. Back, if pressed enough times, will close many apps. (Some apps close via the Menu>Exit path, but this method is becoming less common)

Glad everything makes a little more sense.
One little tip: Many of our users are on both the mobile and PC version of the site. If you have a question about something a user has said, it is best to quote them, like you did today. On the PC version, I had a notification that someone quoted me. Because you did that, I was able to respond much faster than I normally would have.

EDIT: also wathcing these videos may help too:

Rules: http://forums.androidcentral.com/forum-help-videos-guides/307014-know-rules.html (You seem like a polite person, so many of these will be common sense, but there are some obscure ones that perhaps you should know)

On the AndroidCentral.com website on your PC, look just under your avatar--see where it says "9 Posts"? Click on that, and you'll be taken to a list of all of your posts.
