You couldn't possibly be the most clueless person here. I can assure you that I took that award the moment I joined! :D

I think I may have posted in the Samsung area...but here goes
I have finally dived in and bought a simple smart phone, a Samsung Galaxy Y.
I only really want to send texts , a few phone calls and now take some pictures, upload and listen to my music and the radio.
I have kept my Virgin pay as you go tariff
In the first week , I have noticed that the credit balance is going down 1 pound a day, plus the cost of my texts. Am I connected to something I don't know about and if so how do I turn it off ?
I live in the sticks and get back to the shop for a few days
Any help and thoughts would be very welcome
Cheers
Rob

Welcome to Android Central! Do you keep your mobile data (i.e., 3G/4G) on all of the time? Many apps try to access the web to refresh data, which can cost money if you're paying for data as you go. Check the settings for apps like Facebook or Twitter and change refresh settings to longer intervals or manual.

Also, go to Settings/Wireless & Networks, and select Data Usage. If that's running high without you actively doing much web surfing, then your apps are accessing the web automatically. You could install a toggle widget like Power Toggles to turn off mobile data when you don't need it. Turning off Google's Location Reporting might also help.
