hello i am somewhat new to this rooting stuff, i have recently rooted my Evo 4G with the newest method to root Hboot 2.10. i used this method:

[ROOT][GUIDE] HBoot 2.02/2.10 SOFF - The Savior Edition - Upd. 12.26.10 - xda-developers

i noticed it says:
YOU CANNOT USE CLOCKWORK RECOVERY UNTIL KOUSH FIXES IT. PARTITION INFORMATION HAS CHANGED. YOU MUST USE THE RECOVERY THAT IS IN THE MAIN PACKAGE (AMON_RA) OR THE RECOVERY POSTED USING ANY OTHER VERSIONS OF AMON_RA WILL NOT WORK. THE ONE IN THIS THREAD IS CUSTOM CODED. FLASHING OTHER RECOVERIES LEAVE YOU WITHOUT THE ABILITY TO FLASH A ROM OR COST YOU 4G . USING ANOTHER RECOVERY COULD COST YOU YOUR 4G RSA KEYS AND BREAK 4G PERMANENTLY. THIS IS BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT CODED FOR THE NEW PARTITIONS.

i downloaded the ROM Manager from the market and when i go to look for ROMS on it, it tells me i need to install the Clockwork mod recovery before i can use the ROM manager, is this the same concept? or does the above rule apply only during the rooting process. i figured i would ask around before i went ahead and did something stupid. lol

ROM Manager runs off Clockwork, therefore you have to have Clockwork as your recovery to use the features, it's just a shortcut to flashing and what not, really.

Just flash RA and manually reboot to recovery via Vol down and powerbutton and you should be good

clockworkmod or the first armon ra recovery won't work on EVOs with hardware version 004, so if you know yours and it's a 002/003 you can most likely use clockworkmod. - It's really because the partitions on the EVO changed in the new hardware version.

Ok so I have hardware version 003 so I should be ok to flash the clockwork mod recovery?

Oh and one more question does flushing a new rom erase all user data?

You should check your partition sizes to see if you can run clockworkmod.

If they look like this: xda-developers - View Single Post - [GUIDE] HBOOT 2.10(.02 -?)[</3] Got you Down? - Get 0.76[<3] Back! then you can NOT run clockworkmod

You can find this out by going to a terminal shell or through adb and typing:

# cat /proc/mtd

Flashing a new rom doesn't erase all user data, but it should! You usually need to wipe your system, data, cache, sd-ext, sdcard/.android_secure before flashing a new ROM.

When you flash a ROM with ROM Manager, it will prompt you to wipe all data. Make sure to check this option before allowing ROM Manager to flash the ROM.

Along with above ^^^^^^^ dont forget to make a back up just in case...
