hello need a little help for my daughter

I'm trying to set up my previous rooted evo 4g so my daughter can play games and use only on wifi. I rooted forever ago and have got a new computer so I have none of the root programs are on this new laptop which is windows 8. I'm looking to just get the basic rom so that I can connect to wifi and download games for her. She has a google account, but the phone is constantly trying to update and there is little room for games even though I have an sd card to move apps too...so looking for a fresh, minimal rom to accomplish this. I know it is an old phone... maybe better to just find a cheap newer android phone? It's a sprint phone if that helps.

I should add that I need step by step since it has been so long, superuser is currently on phone, but nothing is on laptop
