Hello,

I've installed the latest update 4.3 yesterday and noticed that my battery is draining very fast now. Prior to the update, my battery life was pretty good. Last night before going to bed it was fully charged 100% and this morning when I checked the phone it was already at 79%. Under battery usage android OS is around 43%, then screen is next highest with 20%. I tried rebooting several times, called google and they had me do the same thing. Any help would be much appreciated.

I think there is a misbehaving app. I am going through the same problem as we speak... Clean reset... The battery life was pretty darn good.. Once I restored my apps.. the phone is not going to deep sleep... I am using better battery stats from xda to find the culprit.. Basically the kernel wake locks are causing the drain I my case... I need to find the bad app that's causing it.

did you clear apps in multitasking pane before you went to bed?
there might be apps work on background.

That's what it sounds like to me too.

I find that Tunein radio is starting when I restart the phone, which it did not do before, at least it didn't show in the status bar as running on 4.2.2 unless I started it. Might check to see if you have that.

Don't have Tunein Radio. But here's what I did. I rebooted and charged again up to 100% and now it's back to normal!! Android OS is using 6%. It seems to have fixed itself. Very strange. Thank you for the helpful ideas.

Tune in radio has always started up on boot, i have complained to them but nothing done so far, probably needs more people complaining.

Didn't notice this in 4.2.2, at least it wouldn't show up on the running tasks. I see in the menu, that autostart is listed with no way to turn it off. I sent them an email yesterday about this issue.

I don't think I've ever seen any other service or app use more battery than the screen. saying that, i would say your Android OS usage is too high and something in there is draining your battery more than it should. Here is a screenshot of my phone right now with 4.3... for me I have found my battery performance to have improved.

I have also caught real racing 3 running. Sometimes I need to force stop that game.

Facebook messenger was forcing my phone to be awake 100% of the time. I uninstalled it and now my phone goes to deep sleep also.

I had the same problem checked everything and realized that it was the new feature in Android 4.3 in the WiFi settings in Advanced settings called "Scanning Always Available". When I turned that off (and permanently left it off), then powered the phone off and back on, the problem was solved and never came back.

I think the feature is constantly pinging WiFi routers as you move around and is using up a lot of battery power to do so.

Well, after days of no battery issue, it seems it's back and unchecking the scanning box hasn't stopped it . my android system was using 43% of battery and in terms of running background processes nothing out of the ordinary.

Try using Permission Manager, with it you can delve a little deeper into customizing background app functions

After installing 4.3 update yesterday on Nexus 7 everything appeared okay. Closed the cover so it went to sleep for the night.

This morning it was DEAD! Would not start as the battery was completely drained! Never before has this happened.

After 30 mins. on charger I was able to boot it up. Still concerned I looked online for help for a while.

I then called Nexus support about rapid battery drain -she had me do a 'HARD RESET' (does not delete anything) which is pressing both the power button AND the Volume DOWN button for 10 secs. until it restarts. The Nexus 7 works flawlessly again but I will watch the battery for a day or two.

It was 100% charged at 10 am today and now at 4:30pm Nexus battery is at 97% - almost all idle time but that is very good. I think it fixed it and will watch it for a day to make sure.

Pre- 4.3 update the Nexus battery would last about 4-6 days with light usage so that is the baseline for me. From what I have read 4.3 is supposed to extend battery life and this glitch may be to calibrate battery or something.

Hope this helps someone else. Good Luck.

For me the problem was Google now using googles location reporting . Get wake lock detector app and it will point you in the right direction.

I thought I had the same problem as the problem seemed to concur with the new (small) 4.3 update on my phone but actually I had installed the application Twilight (https://forums.androidcentral.com/e.../details?id=com.urbandroid.lux&token=Hqe0hiHk) which was draining my battery and made my phone very slow.

In the battery stats, it was showing the Android Plateform as the biggest battery consummer but as soon as I have unstalled Twilight, everything went fine and it was much smoother.
Wake lock detector didn't show Twilight as being the problem so it was a hunch but I'm glad I found it because now my phone is smooth and the battery last more than a day again !

Hi I have the 4.3 nexus 4 too but its quite amazing battery life giving me easily whole day
