Hello all. The title says everything i need basically.

I have had my HTC Thunderbolt for a little over 1 year and just rooted it yesterday (i am a novice and used a youtube video to learn how to do it). So then I did a little research and found that I want to put Gingerbread on my phone. They say that afterwards things like the phone, 4G/3G service, and the camera will not work unless you get the MR 2.5 radio fix. I can not find a single working link ANYWHERE on the internet that will allow me to download it so i can install gingerbread. I HAVE the gingerbread file, but DO NOT HAVE the radio fix. I know this has been posted a bunch of times on here but most threads are a year old and the links in them are no good. help!

edit: I can not find a working MR 2.0 radio link either...

Congrats on rooting! Forget about MR2 and MR2.5 and download the radios from the .19 OTA. Here's a thread for it:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/th...75-new-radio-rip-2-11-605-19-pg05img-zip.html

Now, if you accepted the most recent OTA, then you don't have to worry about your radios. To check, go into Settings - About Phone - Software, and see what baseband version you're on. Those are your radios. The .19 radios are 1.49.00.0406w_1, 0.01.79.0331w_1, and if you have those you're good to go. If you don't, then rename the radio file PG05IMG on your pc, and put it on to the root of your sd card (not in a folder). Power down the phone. Reboot into hboot by holding the power button and the down volume button until the phone comes on. When it lets you, push the up volume rocker to accept the radio update. When it finishes, reboot the phone. Then, one of the first things you should do is erase the radio file from the sd card. You now have the correct radios and are ready to flash a ROM.

I have to think your phone already has Gingerbread though. Go into settings - about phone, and see which android version you're on. Let me know.

so I do all the stuff with the PG051MG file BEFORE putting on gingerbread? and if so, then here is my phones info under settings > about phone > software...

android version: 2.3.4
htc sense version: 2.1
software number: 2.11.605.19 710RD
more: baseband, kernel version, etc

so... i really have no idea what any of this means! but i was able to download the file in the link you sent in your reply, so I should have everything i need. im just not quite sure on the steps i take. thanks!

You don't need to do anything now except figure out which ROM you want to flash. You already have Gingerbread and the most recent radios so you're all set there.

well what is the best ROM out there that you would suggest? I would like to change the look and feel of my phone, and, if possible, to increase its power/speed

perhaps a sense 3.0 bamf forever?

My 2 favorite 3.0 ROMs are Bamf Forever 1.11 and ThunderStick Full Blown 1.1.1, and I also think those 2 are a good place to start. Later, if you really want to change it up, you can give an AOSP ROM a go.

okay so I have downloaded 2 zipped files. One is Bamf Forever 1.10 (couldnt find 1.11), and another is PG05IMG to fix the radio issues. This should be all i need, correct? and I install the ROM first and then fix the radio issue, or is it the other way around? thanks so much, just dont want to ruin my phone!

Congrats on rooting.
I was on bamf 1.10 forever for maybe a year or so, it's a nice rom (now on NuSense ICS 6.4 :-D) . You don't need to update your radio as you already have the newest (look at the end of the string you posted, look for ".19" )
Bamf rom will give you a new look and feel as HTC's Sense is a newer version than what you had from Verizon. You'll now have the spinning carousel home screens as well as the lock ring, plus bamf has allowed for further customization by flashing different theme colors for that rom, I loved and used Cyan Hot theme the whole time.
You may also want to download the gingerbread answer screen fix from bamf site, as the new sense answer screen might cause problems for answering the phone sometimes.

Also, if ever updating a radio in future, a good tip I learned from this forum is to make sure you have over 40% battery, as if you don't have enough juice, and the update stops, there's a good chance your phone will be bricked.

well thanks for all your guys help! i just completed the superwipe, installed the bamf forever 1.10 and then did the answer fix 2.1. now i am thinking i may just completely wipe my SD card and start with a fresh phone. deleting all files off the SD card (well, I would format it from the phones boot menu) will not mess anything up i hope?

great work!

but yeah, just as mightyfacundo said, I agree too and don't think it will help you with improved performance by the phone.
However, if you want a fresh start as for personal organization purposes, it might be a good idea.

okay guys, as i said i am running bamf forever 1.10 with sense 3.0. IT SUCKS. my battery lasts approximately 4 hours and i need to either reboot or do a battery pull twice a day. I DO NOT WANT this anymore! if i were to change to something else what should it be? and could you give me the quick steps on how to do it? i would need to do a backup and superwipe again?

Are you using the standard battery or extended? I gotta think standard, but that's still not long enough. I get great battery life on ThunderShed, but it's a big change from Sense. I'd give ThunderStick a try first. I got better battery life from that than Forever.

standard battery. i am debating between gingeritis 3d v1.2 (ive read good things) or liquid smooth v3.2 (which i am hesitant because it is an ASOP build and i have no idea what im doing with that). so i believe i will go for the gingeritis. i will need to do everything that i did when i first rooted my phone and put on forever 1.10 right?

Reboot into recovery, wipe, flash new ROM. It will be the same every time you flash a new one. If you want to save the current ROM, just make a backup beforehand.

i dont care to save the current rom. how to do i backup all my data and apps without backing up the bamf rom?

quick question and then im done! im running gingeritis 3d v1.2 (not 3.2 as previously mentioned: that does not exist) and i was wondering if i should flash the radio. if so, which radio do i need? also, my signal strength shows up in my status bar next to the clock and i want that gone! its annoying, not to mention wrong

Your current radios should work fine; they did for me. There should be a setting in MikMik tweaks or something that will allow you to change the way the signal is represented.... I think. It's been a while since I used that rom.
