Hello everyone,

I would very much like to be able to offload some files from my A8 Galaxy Tablet SM-X200. I saw a reference in this forum to an app USG OTG Checker and have used that, it tells me that the tablet is compatible.

Can someone please tell me how I connect my tablet and a USB drive? I previously have been able to use OTG on an earlier Samsung tablet without any difficulty.

I have used an adaptor cable to connect a drive to the USB-C charging port but the drive does not show in My Files. Do I need an OTG adaptor instead of just USB cables? (In case there was a problem with the USB drive itself, I tried 4 different ones with the same result.)

If someone is replying please assume I know nothing and give as precise instructions as possible, thanks very much.

Best wishes to all,

Roger

Do you know how that USB drive was formatted? Drives are formatted using certain kinds of filesystems (e.g., FAT32, NTFS, exFAT), and Android doesn't support all of them. The main ones that Android uses are FAT32, Ext3, Ext4, and exFAT. Notably, it does not support NTFS (which is a Microsoft proprietary filesystem). https://www.transcend-info.com/supp...32/Ext3/Ext4,on the devices software/hardware.

If the drive was formatted using a Windows machine, it's possible it was formatted using NTFS, and would therefore not be usable on an Android device. If you have a Windows PC, try connecting the USB drive there and following these steps to determine what filesystem it was formatted in: https://neosmart.net/wiki/identifying-the-filesystem-format-of-a-usb-drive/

Thank you for your quick reply, but I did check the format of the drive. It was the same drive I had kept purely for use with my earlier tablet. Just in case I reformatted it to exFAT but it made no difference,

Try a 3rd party file manager like Total Commander (which is my go-to).
Thanks for the suggestion, I will certainly get that app, it sounds a good one.

I returned the lead and adaptor this morning, and the salesman said 'Oh you just need this...' He then showed me a Digitech USB 3.0 Type-C plug to USB 3.0 Socket. By the packaging it seems to be sold worldwide so I hope others find this info useful. It worked straight away,

Thanks for the replies,

Roger
